HEALTH HAZARD INFORMATION

2
Health Effects

Acute - Swallowed
Toxic if swallowed. Ingestion may cause nausea, vomiting, headache, dizziness,
weakness, ringing in the ears, dim vision, breathing difficulty, cyanosis, loss
of consciousness, delirium, coma and possible death. May cause cardiac
arrhythmia, which is a change or disruption in the normal pattern or 'rhythm' of
the heartbeat, and methemoglobinemia.
Acute - Eye
Eye contact will cause stinging, blurring, tearing and possible permanent corneal
damage.
Acute - Skin
Toxic in contact with skin. Skin contact will cause redness, itchiness,
irritation and chemical burns with resultant tissue destruction. Upon initial
skin contact a white burn that is not initially painful due to deadening of the
nerve endings may occur. Later intense pain and gangrene may develop. May be
absorbed through the skin with resultant toxic effects.
Acute - Inhaled
Inhalation may irritate the respiratory system.
Chronic
Prolonged or repeated exposure may cause vomiting, difficulty swallowing,
salivation, diarrhea, loss of appetite and weight, headache, fainting, dizziness,
mental disturbances, kidney and liver damage, muscle pain, weakness, dark urine,
skin eruptions and changes in pigmentation (brown spots on the knuckles).

First Aid

Swallowed
DO NOT INDUCE VOMITING. Wash out mouth with water and give plenty of water to
drink. Seek immediate medical attention.
Eye
If contact with the eye(s) occurs, wash with copious amounts of water for
approximately 15 minutes holding eyelid(s) open. Take care not to rinse
contaminated water into the non-affected eye. Seek immediate medical attention.
Skin
If skin contact occurs immediately remove any contaminated clothing. Wash skin
thoroughly with soap and water then methylated spirit if available. Seek medical
attention.
Inhaled
Remove the source of contamination or move the victim to fresh air. Ensure
airways are clear and have qualified person give oxygen through a face mask if
breathing is difficult. If symptoms develop seek medical attention.
First Aid Facilities
Eye wash station, safety shower and normal washroom facilities.
