Section 3 Hazard Identification
Emergency Overview: This material is an amber colored liquid with a mild odor and a
flash point of 104?F. The material is used as a water repellent to protect wood surfaces.
Primary Routes of Exposure:
Eye
Skin
Inhalation
Potential Acute Health Effects:
Eye: Direct contact with liquid or vapor may cause eye irritation.
Skin: Prolonged or repeated contact may cause irritation. May be absorbed through the skin.
Ingestion: May be harmful if swallowed. May cause vomiting. Aspiration of this product
into the lung may cause chemical pneumonitis which can be fatal.
Inhalation: Avoid breathing vapors or mists. High concentrates may lead to central nervous
system effects (drowsiness, dizziness, nausea, headaches). Prolonged or repeated inhalation and
ingestion may cause delayed injury involving the kidneys and the blood.
MSDS Code: RainCoat Clear - Oil-Base (5-18-04) Page 1 of 6 pages.
Potential Chronic Health Effects:
Signs and Symptoms: Individuals with pre-existing disease in, or a history of ailments
involving the skin, eye, respiratory tract, liver, kidney, central nervous system are at a greater
than normal risk of developing adverse effects when exposed to this material.
(See also Sections 4, 8, and 11 for related information)
Section 4 First Aid Measures
Eye contact: Immediately flush with plenty of water for 15 minutes. Get medical attention.
Skin contact: Wash thoroughly with soap and water. If redness, itching, burning or other
symptoms develop or persist, get medical attention. Wash contaminated clothing before reuse.
Ingestion: If swallowed, do NOT induct vomiting. Give victim a glass of milk or water.
Get medical attention. NEVER GIVE ANYTHING BY MOUTH TO AN UNCONSCIOUS
PERSON.
Inhalation: Remove to fresh air. If not breathing, give artificial respiration. If breathing is
difficult, give oxygen. Get medical attention.
Note to Physician: There is no specific antidote for effects from overexposure to this
material. Treatment should be directed at the control of symptoms and the clinical condition.
Section 5 Fire Fighting Measures
Flash Point: 104?F (40?C)
Flammable Limits in Air: Lower (LEL): N/D
Upper (UEL): N/D
Extinguishing Media: Use dry chemical, carbon dioxide, foam or water spray.
Protection of Firefighters: Wear complete fire service protective equipment, including full-
face, self-contained breathing apparatus. Use water to cool fire-exposed container/
structure/protect personnel. Toxic vapors may be given off in a fire.
Fire and Explosion Hazards: When heated (fire conditions), vapor/decomposition
products may be released forming flammable mixtures in air. Closed containers may explode
when exposed to extreme heat (fire.)
Section 6 Accidental Release Measures
Clean Up Methods: Stop leak if you can do so without risk of injury. Keep spill out
of sewer and open bodies of water. Avoid runoff into storm sewers and ditches that lead
to waterways. For small spills, dike and contain with inert material (sand, earth, etc.) and
transfer liquid to containers for recovery or disposal. For large spills, dike far ahead of

the spill. Absorb remaining liquid with absorbent material. Keep unnecessary people
away. Isolate hazard area and deny entry to unauthorized personnel. Stay upwind, keep
out of low areas, and ventilate closed spaces before entering.
(See also Section 8 for information on Exposure Controls and Personal Protective Equipment)
Section 7 Handling and Storage
Handling: Avoid skin and eye contact. Avoid breathing vapors. Use with adequate
ventilation. Wash thoroughly after handling. Observe good personal hygiene practices.
Keep contents and freshly treated articles away from flame, food, and living plants. Do
not contaminate water by cleaning equipment or disposing of waste. For exterior use
only. This product should be applied to articles that are to remain outdoors. When
applying this product, care should be taken as to not to allow vapors to enter indoor areas.
Keep out of reach of children.
Storage: Store at ambient temperature. Keep containers tightly closed and upright
when not in use. Protect against physical damage. Store away from caustics and oxidizers.
Keep containers from excessive heat or freezing. Do not store at temperatures above 120?F.
Maintain good housekeeping.
Other: Do not use until manufacturer's directions and precautions have been read and
understood.
Section 8 Exposure Controls / Personal Protection
Engineering Controls: Provide sufficient mechanical ventilation (local exhaust or general
room dilution) to maintain exposure levels below applicable exposure levels. Vapors are heavier
than air. Flammable vapors may collect in low areas. Check all low areas (basements, sumps,
etc.) for vapor before entering.
Personal Protective Equipment (PPE):
Eye Protection: Wear chemical splash goggles, safety glasses with side shields, or full-face
mask.
Skin Protection: Chemical resistant gloves (rubber, nitrile, etc.), long sleeved shirts and long
pants are recommended to avoid skin contact.
Respiratory Protection: None normally required under anticipated use conditions. A
NIOSH approved air-purifying respirator with an organic vapor cartridge or canister should be
used be in circumstances where airborne concentrations are expected to exceed exposure limits.
Other Protective Clothing: Impervious apron and rubber boots to prevent skin contact.
