11 - Toxicological Information
RTECS NUMBER: SC9700000
SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS OF EXPOSURE
Potassium perchlorate has produced fatal aplastic anemia along
with other blood disorders which include agranulocytosis,
thrombocytopenia, and leucopenia. It reduces the ability of the
thryoid to uptake iodide and stimulates the release of inorganic
iodide that has been taken up previously. Absorption into the
body leads to the formation of methemoglobin which in sufficient
concentration causes cyanosis. Onset may be delayed 2 to 4 hours
or longer.
ROUTE OF EXPOSURE
Skin Contact: May cause skin irritation.
Skin Absorption: May be harmful if absorbed through the skin.
Eye Contact: May cause eye irritation.
Inhalation: May be harmful if inhaled. Material may be
irritating to mucous membranes and upper respiratory tract.
