W ARNING! Avoid dispersion of dust to reduce potential dust ignition/explosion
15-1-B (BJO-0930) MICROBALLOONS MSDS PAGE 2 OF 5

Static charges can accum ulate during shipping, unloading, pouring and conveying. Avoid dispersion of dust in air. Avoid
spark and flam e under dust conditions. Keep containers closed. Use with adequate ventilation. Electrically bond and
ground all containers, equipm ent and personnel before transfer of use. W ear antistatic footwear. Avoid dispersion of dust
in air to reduce potential of dust ignition / explosions.

Form aldehyde and Phenol vapors m ay form under fire conditions.

SECTION V - HEALTH HAZARD DATA

EFFECTS OF OVEREXPOSURE:

EYES: May cause irritation. Sym ptom s m ay include stinging with excess blinking and tear production.

SKIN: No evidence of harm ful effects from available inform ation.

INGESTION: No evidence of harm ful effects from available inform ation.

INHALATION: Short term harm ful effects are not expected from vapor generated at am bient tem perature.

EFFECTS OF REPEATED EXPOSURE:
This m aterial m ay contain trace am ounts (<0.001%) of free form aldehyde, which is listed by IARC, NTP and
OSHA as a carcinogen. There should be m inim al risk when adequate ventilation is used due to the very low
form aldehyde concentration.

MEDICAL CONDITIONS AGGRAVATED BY OVEREXPOSURE:
A knowledge of the available toxicology inform ation and of the physical and chem ical properties of the m aterial
suggest that overexposure is unlikely to aggravate existing m edical conditions.

ADDITIONAL TOXICITY INFORMATION:
Form aldehyde has been shown to cause cancer in laboratory anim als and m utations in a variety of in vitro test
system s, the significance of which to hum ans is unknown. Form aldehyde is listed by IARC, NTP, and OSHA as a
carcinogen.

OTHER HEALTH HAZARDS:
None currently known.

NOTES TO PHYSICIAN:
There is no specific antidote. Treatm ent of overexposure should be directed at the control of sym ptom s and the
clinical condition of the patient.

SECTION VI EM ERGENCY AND FIRST AID PROCEDURES
EYE CONTACT:
Im m ediately flush eyes with water and continue washing for several m inutes. Obtain m edical attention if irritation
persists.

SKIN CONTACT:
Rem ove contam inated clothing. W ash skin with soap and water. Obtain m edical attention if irritation
persists. W ash contam inated clothing before reuse.

CONDITIONS TO AVOID: - None known

INCOMPATIBILITY: - Strong oxidizing agents
- Strong acids
- Halogens
- Strong alkalies
- Acyl halides.
CONDITIONS TO AVOID: - None known

HAZARDOUS COMBUSTION OR DECOMPOSITION PRODUCTS:
Burning or therm al decom position can produce the following com bustion or decom position products: Carbon
m onoxide and / or carbon dioxide, form aldehyde and phenol. Carbon m onoxide is highly toxic if inhaled; carbon
dioxide in sufficient concentrations can act as an asphyxiant.

SECTION IX - SPILL OR LEAK PROCEDURES
STEPS TO BE TAKEN IN CASE MATERIAL IS RELEASED OR SPILLED:
Collect for disposal. W ear suitable protective equipm ent.

W ASTE DISPOSAL METHOD:
Landfill where perm itted under appropriate Federal, State, and Local regulations.

SECTION X - SPECIAL PRECAUTIONS AND STORAGE DATA
GENERAL PRECAUTIONS:
CAUTION! May undergo spontaneous sm ouldering if stored or heated in bulk above 35?C under conditions
allowing air ingress to the product. Store package m aterial in a cool well ventilated area. Do not store in sun. Do
not dry in package.

Microballoons will undergo oxidation at elevated tem peratures. Due to the m icroballoons' excellent insulating
characteristics, the internal tem perature of the m ass can increase to the point where spontaneous ignition and
sm ouldering can occur. The tem perature at which this occurs is a function of the geom etry and the am ount of
m aterial being heated. Com bustion appears as a soft glow sim ilar to burning charcoal.

STORAGE:
Keep containers closed. Store m aterial in single rows with an air gap between. Do not stack m aterial m ore than
two high.

VENTILATION:
Special, local ventilation is recom m ended in areas where containers are opened and their contents are discharged
or in any other areas where dusting conditions m ay develop.

DRYING INSTRUCTIONS:
To reduce the m oisture content of this product to less than 4%. Dry a two inch layer or less of the product at a
m axim um tem perature of 75?C for 24 hours. To prevent oven or product contam ination, the m etal drying tray
should be covered with a cloth that will allow the product m oisture to evaporate. W hile handling the Microballoons,
precaution should be taken to prevent dispensing of the m aterial in air to form dust. Any finely divided organic
m aterial dispersed in air can be ignited and under som e conditions develop into dust explosion.

15-1-TC RESIN TALC M ATERIAL SAFETY DATA SHEET PAGE 2 OF 3

HEALTH HAZARDS:
W ARNING! These feldspar products contain crystalline silica which m ay cause delayed respiratory disease
(silicosis) if inhaled over a prolonged period of tim e. Avoid breathing dust. Use NIOSH/MSHA approved respirator
where TLV for crystalline silica m ay be exceeded.

IARC MONOGRAPH VOLUME 68, 1997 concludes that there is sufficient evidence that inhaled crystalline silica causes
cancer in hum ans. IARC Classification: Group I

THE NTP in the Sixth Annual Report on Carcinogens, 1991, has added crystalline silica to its list of substances that are
"reasonably anticipated to be carcinogens".

SECTION VI - EM ERGENCY AND FIRST AID PROCEDURES

EYE PROTECTION:
W ear tight fitting goggles if high dust concentration exists. NIOSH recom m ends that contact lenses not be worn
when working with crystalline silica.

RESPIRATORY PROTECTION:
If dust concentrations exceed recom m ended PEL or TLV for short tim e durations, use NIOSH/MSHA approved
dust respirators. If spraying wet coatings, use NIOSH/MSHA dust/m ist respirators.

OTHER:
Dust exposure levels in excess of appropriate PEL or TLV should be reduced by feasible engineering and/or
adm inistrative controls.

It is recom m ended that the em ployer obtain a copy of the ASTM 1132 inform ation package, "Standard Practice of
Health Requirem ents Relating to Occupational Exposure to Quartz Dust".

Govornm ent regulations require that exposed personnel receive appropriate training in safe work habits when
working with crystalline silica where the potential exists for exceeding the PEL or TLV.

SPECIAL PRECAUTIONS:
Minim ize dust generation and exposure. Do not breath dust. TW A should not exceed TLV or PEL. ACGIH
recom m ends periodic physical exam inations for those em ployees who are exposed to respirable crystalline silica
levels greater than 50% of the TLV or PEL.

Manufacturers who crush or grind ceram ic bodies fired to high tem peratures should recognize possible presence of
tridym ite and/or crystobalite which have greater health hazards than quartz.

Feldspar is not hazardous under DOT regulations.

SECTION VIII - REACTIVITY DATA
STABILITY - Feldspar is stable under ordinary conditions. W hen exposed to high
