SECTION 1 Product and Company Identification
TRADE NAME: Sarnafiller "B"
SYNONYMS: Component: Polymeric Isocyanate

MANUFACTURER: Sika Sarnafil Inc.
ADDRESS: 100 Dan Road, Canton, MA 02021-2842

EMERGENCY NUMBERS: CHEMTREC Transportation Emergency (24 hr.) (800) 424-9300
MSDS and Product Information (M-F, 8:30am-5:00pm EST) (800) 451-2504

SECTION 2 Information on Hazardous Ingredients
CHEMICAL/COMMON NAME CAS NUMBER PERCENT

Polymeric Diphenylmethane 9016-87-9 <20%
Diisocyanate

4,4' Diphenylmethane 101-68-8 <15%
Diisocyanate (MDI)

SECTION 3 Hazards Identification
EYES: Liquid, aerosols or vapors are irritating and can cause tearin g, reddening, and swelling of the eyes. If left
untreated, corneal damage can occur and injury is slow to heal.

SKIN: Isocyanates react with skin protein and moisture which can cause irritation. This may include reddening,
swelling, rash, scaling or blistering. Prolonged contact may cause skin and/or respiratory sensitization.

INHALATION: At room temperature, vapors are minimal due to low vapor pressure. Certain operations may
generate vapor or aerosol concentrations sufficient to cause irritation or other adverse effects. Such
operations include those in which material is heated, sprayed or otherwise mechanically dispersed
such as drum venting or pumping. Excessive exposure may irritate upper respiratory tract, causing sensitization
in susceptible individuals. Symptoms include coughing, difficulty in breathing and a feeling of tightness in the
chest. Such effects may be delayed. Impaired lung function (decreased ventilatory capacity) has been
associated with over exposures to isocyanates.

INGES TION: Single oral dose toxicity is low. Ingestion can result in irritation and corrosive action in the mouth, stomach
tissue, and digestive tract. Symptoms can include sore throat, abdominal pains, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea.

MEDICAL CONDITONS AGGRAVATED BY EXPOSURE:

Asthma , other respiratory disorders (bronchitis, emphysema, bronchial hyperactivity), skin allergies, eczema
may be aggravated by exposure to this product.

SECTION 4 First Aid Measures
EYES: Immediately flush eyes with plenty of flowing water for at least 15 minutes. Consult physician. Materials
containing MDI may react with the moisture in the eye forming a thick material that may be difficult to remove
from the eye.

SKIN: Remove contaminated clothing and wash exposed skin with large amounts of water. Wash contaminated
clothing thoroughly before reuse. Seek medical attention if irritation develops or persists after the area is
washed.

INGESTION: Do not induce vomiting. Wash mouth out with water. Do not give anything by mouth to an unconscious
person. Consult a physician.

INHALATION: Remove person to fresh air. Administer oxygen or artificial respiration as needed. Obtain medical attention.
Asthmatic璽ype symptoms may develop and may be immediate or delayed up to several hours. Consult a
physician should this occur.

SECTION 5 Fire Fighting Measures
FLASH POINT ( F/ C) LEL (volume %) UEL (volume %)
Not Established Not Established Not Established

Extinguishing Media: Carbon dioxide, dry chemical, or foam. The reaction between water and hot isocyanate
may be vigorous. Use water only in large quantities for large fires.

Fire Fighting Procedures: Wear full protective clothing and approved self-contained breathing apparatus with
full-face piece, operated in positive pressure mode. During a fire, MDI vapors and other irritating,
highly toxic gases may be generated by thermal decomposition or combustion.

Unusual Hazards: At temperatures greater than 400?F (204?C), polymeric MDI can polymerize and decompose which
can cause pressure build-up in closed containers. Explosive rupture is possible. Therefore, use cold
water to cool fire-exposed containers.

Combustion Products: Toxic gases include carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide, and acid vapors,

SECTION 6 Accide ntal Release Measures
Ventilate area and remove all ignition sources. Wear full protective equipment during clean up. Contain spill by building a dike using
absorbent material. Collect the remainder of the spill with absorbent material and place the material into an open top drum approved
for waste disposal. For a minor spill, absorb with sawdust or other absorbent and shovel into open top containers. Keep away from
water. Cover mops and brooms with plastic and dispose by incineration.

SECTION 7 Handling and Storage
Minimize vaporization by sealing in a tightly closed container. Store in a cool, well-ventilated area. Keep away from heat, sparks,
and open flame. Keep away from incompatibles. Do not freeze. Avoid eye and skin contact. Use appropriate personal protection.
When transferring between containers ground and bond both containers.

SECTION 8 Exposure Controls / Personal Protection
Engineering Controls: Provide local ventilation where heat can cause polymer to break down (e.g. extrusion and
molding) and where there is a need to draw dust and fumes from worker breathing zones.

Personal Protective Equipment:

EYES: Splash proof goggles with side shields are recommended for any type of handling.

SKIN: Wear gloves and protective clothing to minimize contact with skin.

RESPIRATORY: Where vapors are generated, a NIOSH approved respirator suitable to the airborne concentration.

SECTION 10 Stability and Reactivity
CONDITIONS TO AVOID:

Prolonged storage at elevated temperatures, excessive heat, sparks, open flame, and smoking.

INCOMPATIBILITY WITH OTHER MATERIALS:

Avoid contact with water, amines, strong bases, and alcohols. Will cause some corrosion to copper alloys and aluminum.
The reaction with water is slow at temperatures under 120?F, but accelerated at higher temperatures and in the presence of
the above mentioned materials, some reactions may be violent due to liberation of CO 2.
