3.0 Health Hazard Information
Acute Effects:
Swallowed: Harmful if swallowed. Corrosive to the gastrointestinal tract.
Eye: Causes burns. Direct contact with eye may cause severe damage.
Skin: Causes burns. Direct contact with skin may cause severe damage.
Inhaled: Product vapours/mist may cause irritation to the mucous membranes.

Chronic Effects:
The Substituted Pyrrolidone may cause irritation of skin and mucous membranes due to
defatting properties of the solvent which may lead to dermatitis. This solvent has not been
proven to be a carcinogen by chronic inhalation. This solvent is rapidly distributed
throughout the body and is mainly eliminated via the urine.
In animal experiments high maternal doses of Substituted Pyrrolidone have been observed
to cause developmental toxicity. These concentrations will not be reached in cases of
exclusively vapour exposure or if skin contact is avoided with the product in concentrated
and diluted form and on handling recently treated timber.
Conflicting negative and positive results in mutagenicity and carcinogenicity are
inconclusive. Carbendazim is a Category 3 Mutagen, i.e. insufficient evidence to classify as
a mutagen. Studies indicate that reproductive and teratogenic effects in humans are unlikely
at expected exposure levels.
First Aid:
Swallowed: Never give anything by mouth to an unconscious person. Give water or milk to
drink. DO NOT induce vomiting. Seek medical assistance immediately.
Eye: Hold eyelids open and immediately irrigate with copious amounts of water for
a minimum of 15 minutes. Seek medical assistance immediately, even if no
symptoms develop.
Skin: Remove contaminated clothing and footwear. Flush affected area with copious
amounts of running water. . Seek medical assistance if a large area is involved
or if irritation persists.
Inhaled: Remove victim to fresh air. Lay patient down and keep warm and rested. If
breathing shallow or has stopped ensure airway is clear and a use artificial
respiration. Seek medical assistance.
First Aid Facilities:
Ensure an eye-wash and safety showers are available and ready for use.
Advice to Doctor:
Give fluids to dilute. Treat symptomatically. If a large quantity is ingested, empty stomach.

Engineering Controls:
Use with adequate ventilation.
Personal Protection:
Avoid all skin and eye contact. Avoid inhaling vapours. Wear chemical goggles and
approved respirator with the appropriate cartridge fitted and impervious gloves when
handling or manufacturing.
Flammability:
Toxic decomposition products may form under fire conditions.
5.0 Safe Handling Information
Transport classifications:
Road Transport: Corrosive liquid, N.O.S.
UN 1760 Hazchem 2X
DG Class 8 Packaging Group III
Sea Transport: IMDG 8105 (amendment 27-94)

Temperature conditions:
Keep away from direct heat sources. Under extreme heat may decompose emitting toxic
fumes.
Protection from weather and sunlight:
Keep away from direct sunlight and from rain.
Dangerous Goods Class/Subsidiary Risk:
DG Class 8. No subsidiary risk.
Spills and Disposal:
Wear protective clothing and self contained breathing apparatus. Dyke with sand or earth.
Prevent from entering drains or waterways. Notify Police and local Health Protection
Officer if there is any risk of contamination of watercourses.
Recover liquid to salvage container. Absorb any remaining liquid and any small spills with
sand, soil or sawdust and transfer to lined containers for burial at an approved landfill away
from watercourses.
Reactivity:
This product is not suitable for transport or storage in metal containers.
Fire/Explosion Hazard:
May emit toxic nitrogen oxide fumes if involved in fire or subjected to extreme heat. Will
emit SO2 fumes when heated to decomposition point of aryl sulphonic acid. If material
involved in fire breathable air apparatus may have to be worn, especially in confined
spaces. Keep up wind.
Use foam, CO2 or dry chemical extinguishers.
