Overview
Welcome to MSDSOnfile Plus powered by MAXCOM. This user guide
was created to assist you with the use and navigation of MSDSonfile Plus.
This guide will enable you to quickly locate the correct MSDS and chemical
information that you need at the click of a button.
T
he MSDSonfile Plus System utilizes chemical categories to provide you with important
information about the chemicals in your workplace. MSDSonfile Plus assigns the chemicals in your
workplace to one of 36 chemical categories called Safe-Use-Guides and one of 3 Hazard Levels
(Red, Yellow, or Green), which inform a user of the level of danger associated with the chemical.
Take an active role in your safety and discover how the MSDSonfile Plus System works to provide you
with tools that have simplified technical chemical information. make certain that you are comfortable
with the procedures for accessing chemical information. The more you you know about the
chemicals you are working with, the safer you will be.

Logging into MSDSonfile Plus
From http://www.msdsdirectonline.com you will be directed to the free MSDSonfile website.
You can also be directed to this site by going to http://www.xpedx.com and clicking on the
MSDSonfile鈩? icon.
To use:
1. Find the Login box on the bottom left corner and enter in your username and
password assigned when you subscribed to the system.
2. Click on the login button.

How to Search for a MSDS 鈥? Using MSDS Index
The MSDS Index is the list of all chemicals provided by xpedx Distribution. Once the
MSDSonfile Plus program is activated, you will see the following:
Navigating the MSDS Index Window
The MSDS Index provides numerous functions that allow users to sort the results and filter to
obtain the MSDS you need. You may select contains or begins with to further enhance your
search.
Search By: You may select from any one of the following search fields located in the drop down
box::
Synonym
Ingredient CAS #
Ingredient Name

In Search Criteria, enter the value of what you are looking for from the Search By selection.
Enter the value you are searching for and then click the search button or press on
your keyboard.
Product alphabetical List: Double click on the first letter of the product you are trying to locate.
All the products that begin with that letter will appear alphabetically.
Manufacturer alphabetical List: Double click on the first letter of the manufacturer you are trying
to locate. All of the manufacturers that begin with that letter will appear alphabetically.
Using Filters to Limit Your Results

The filters limit the search results to more refined criteria. You can set a filter and then using the
search criteria, search for any values in the filter. To further explain:
Filter by Manufacturer: Use this drop down to select what manufacturer specifically you would
like to filter by. For example:
Filter by Chemical Group/Product Category: Use this drop down to locate a specific chemical
group or product category specifically you would like to filter by. For example to show a list of all
paints, locate from the group paints, and click search
When you have determined your search criteria:
Launching a Search 鈥? Click on the Search button to begin the search.
Resetting a Search 鈥? Click on the Reset button to clear all the previous search criteria..
Sorting the List of Results:
Product Name 鈥? Lists the Product Name or the Synonym if listed on the MSDS. Clicking on
the product name heading in the column will sort the list by Product Name in ascending order,
and then when clicking again will display the list in descending order.
Manufacturer 鈥? Lists the Manufacturer and xpedx part numbers if listed on the MSDS.
Clicking on the manufacturer heading in the column will sort the list by Manufacturer in
ascending order, and then when clicking again will display the list in descending order.
MSDS Summary 鈥? Provides an overview of important Right-To-Know information including,
Product ID#鈥檚, MSDS Effective Date, Physical and Health Hazards, Target Organs, Required PPE, and
Routes of Entry. Clicking on the MSDS Summary heading in the column will sort the list by
Effective Date in ascending order, and then when clicking again, in descending order.

Safe-Use-Guide 鈥? Identifies the Safe-Use-Guide that the selected product has been assigned to.
Clicking on this icon will display the correct Safe-Use鈥揋uide which will immediately identify the
potential hazards and safety precautions as well as the correct responses for Fires, Spills, and First
Aid procedures. Clicking on the Safe Use Guide heading in the column will sort the list by Safe-
Use-Guide Number in ascending order, and when clicking again the list will sort in descending
order.

View and Print an MSDS:
To view an MSDS, simply click on the MSDS button. This option will display the MSDS in
Adobe庐 PDF format. The first page of every MSDS is a Summary sheet that details the Physical
and Health hazards, the Target Organs that may be affected, the Route of Entry into the Body
and the personal protective equipment recommended by the manufacturer to protect the Target
Organs.

To Use:
1. Locate the product using the search field criteria and viewing the results, find the
product name .
2. Click on the MSDS button.
3. The MSDS will appear in Adobe PDF format. Select from the window to print by
clicking the printer icon.
4. If you prefer to save and use later, then click on the floppy icon.
5. To close the MSDS window, click the X on the top right hand corner of the window.

View and Print Labels:
Secondary container labels are required to be placed on any container that contains a hazardous
chemical. OSHA required information includes the chemical name and appropriate hazard
warnings such as the Physical and Health Hazards, Target Organ Affects, Routes of Entry and
PPE
MSDSonfile Plus supports 4 label options that can be printed from any web-enabled computer
printer by clicking on the Print Labels button. The desired label will appear in Adobe庐 PDF
Format.
Secondary Container Labels provides the required right-to-know information that corresponds
with the MSDS summary. Labels can be printed in a variety of sizes utilizing standard Avery
Label stock. The default label, 3 陆鈥? x 4鈥? is set to an Avery label #8254 or #5264 that prints 6
labels per sheet.
NFPA is the NFPA 704 (National Fire Protection Association) diamond label shown with
NFPA ratings, is set to default to Avery Label #5163. A variety of label sizes are available utilizing
standard Avery label stock with any web-enabled color computer printer.
HMIS (Hazardous Materials Identification System), labels are available with the HMIS ratings
displayed. Utilizing standard Avery Label sizes such as #5163, a variety of other label sizes can be
printed from any web-enabled color computer printer.
Adjunct label is a 1鈥? x 1鈥? label that identifies the hazard level and the safe-use-guide number
associated with a particular chemical product. The 1" Round labels, circular laser inkjet labels, 63
labels per sheet available for both Laser and inkjet printers be found on 鈥淥nline Labels鈥? product
Number OL1025WX.
To Use:
1. Locate the product requiring a label from your MSDSonfile Plus index
2. Click on the Label button.
3. Select from the drop down the label you need by clicking on the drop down arrow.
4. If NFPA or HMIS labels, choose from the list the ingredients you want to have on
the label by clicking in the print column for that ingredient.

5. Choose from the drop down the label type and size .
6. Enter in the # of Copies of the same label in the # of Copies
7. An additional information field allows limited custom information to be added to
labels..
8. Click the Print Label button to begin the label generation process.
9. The label will appear in Adobe PDF format. Choose from the window to print by
clicking the printer icon.
10. . If you prefer to save and use later, then click on the floppy icon.
11. To close the Details window, click the X on the top right hand corner of the window.
View Details:
Additional details such as the CAS #, part numbers (stock numbers), ingredients, the product
group a chemical is associated with etc., can be viewed by clicking on the Display Icon From
this same location, you can view the MSDS or the Safe Use Guide for that chemical.

1. Locate the product you would like to view details for.
2. Click on the Details button.
3. Important additional details specific to the MSDS will appear..
4. To view the Safe Use Guide for that Chemical, click the Safe Use Guide button.
5. To view the MSDS for that Chemical, click on the View MSDS button.
6. To close the Details window, click the X on the top right hand corner of the window.

View Safe-Use-Guide:
Numbered Safe-Use鈥揋uides provided in English and Spanish correspond with each of the 36
chemical categories associated with the MSDSonfile Plus system. Each safe-use-guide provide
valuable information such as the potential hazards and safety precautions and emergency response
procedures for fires, spills and injury鈥檚 for each category of chemical located in your workplace.
To Use:
1. Identify the product you would like to view the Safe-Use-Guide for.
2. Click on the Safe-Use-Guide or same in Spanish button.
3. The Safe-Use-Guide will appear in Adobe PDF format. Choose from the window to
print by clicking the printer icon.
4. If you prefer to save and use later, then click on the floppy icon.

5. To close the Safe Use Guide window, click the X on the top right hand corner of the
window.
Emergency Flowchart
The MSDSonfile Plus Emergency Flowchart, identifies the three steps required to correctly
respond to a chemical release involving a fire, spill or injury,.
Identify: the chemical or product that has been released, (Note: the Hazard Level associated
with each product is indicated with a Red, Yellow or Green Stop Light Icon)
Locate: the correct Safe-Use-Guide associated with the released chemical or product and;
Respond: using the information provided on the Safe-Use鈥揋uide.
To View:
1. Click on the Emergency Flowchart link on the left navigation.
2. The Emergency Flowchart appears.
3. To print the Emergency Flowchart, click on the chart and right mouse click on your
mouse and choose print with your left mouse button.

Hazcom Plan
The Hazcom Plan is a word document template that you can view and save and complete for
your own Hazard Communication Plan. Click on 鈥淰iew Hazcom Plan鈥?. The Hazcom Plan
will either display automatically, or your web browser will ask you if you want to open or save to
your hard drive. If it opens automatically, you can save using File and Safe as in your web
browser. The Hazcom Plan is the most vital of the OSHA Standard and it鈥檚 formatted to work
with the MSDSonfile Plus system.
To Use:
1. Click on the HAZCOM Plan link on the left navigation.
2. Click on the View HAZCOM Plan Icon to view the plan.
3. To save the plan click on File in the drop down menu.

4. Click on the Save button after selecting the location you want to save the document
on your hard drive to. You can edit this document and maintain in your files.
Definitions
The Definitions link provides simple definitions for such items as Target Organs, Physical and Health
Hazards, Routes of Entry, and other technical terms associated with most MSDS.
To Use:
1. Click on the Definitions link on the left navigation.
2. The Definitions page will display.
3. To print the Definitions, click on the chart and right mouse click on your mouse and
choose print with your left mouse button.
Training
The Training link guides the user to General Hazcom (Hazard Communication) Training that can
be viewed from any web-enabled computer. This video is presented in Flash format and you must
have a flash viewer to view. Click either in English or Spanish to view the video. A test can be
printed for tracking employee results. Click on the link to this test and save to a file or print.
Scroll down to click on the blue hyperlink.

To Use:
1. Click on the Training link on the left navigation.
2. The Training page will appear.
3. Verify that your computer meets the System Requirements listed in the description.
If you do not have Flash or ability to stream videos from your computer, please call
888-707-8819 and ask to order the HAZCOM video in DVD or CD Version.
4. The DVD Version will work on a standard home entertainment DVD Player. To use
the CD Version, you will still need to meet the requirements from your computer.

5. To run the Hazcom Training from the web, click the blue hyperlink that states here.
6. If you want to run in Spanish, click on the blue hyperlink that states aqu铆.
7. Once the video begins, please note the blue hyperlink. To download or print the test
that corresponds with the MSDSonfile Plus online hazcom training program click on
the hyperlink to open the test. You can then print the test and follow the video.
