3. Hazards Identification - Continued
Inhalation Hazards - Continued
The hydrogen cyanide concentration in this product is so low (<10ppm) as to be toxicologically insignificant when the
product is used as a solvent. However, when the product is chemically reacted with alcohols, and methanol is
recovered from that reaction and purified for reuse distillation, concentration of highly volatile impurities such as
hydrogen cyanide may be raised to toxicologically significant levels in the waste stream from this process. Processors
using this product as a raw material should be aware of this potential hazard.
4. First Aid Measures
Eye
In case of contact, hold eyelids apart and immediately flush eyes with plenty of tepid water for at least 15 minutes.
Immediately seek medical attention. Remove contact lenses, if worn.
Skin
In case of contact, remove contaminated clothing and blot or brush the product away, prior to washing the
exposed area with water. Flush skin with soap and plenty of tepid water for at least 15 minutes. Get medical
attention immediately if irritation (redness, rash, blistering) develops and persists. Wash clothing before reuse.
Ingestion
Seek Medical attention immediately. Do not induce vomiting. Rinse mouth out with water. Aspiration of material
into the lungs due to vomiting can cause chemical pneumonitis which can be fatal.
Inhalation
Remove affected person immediately to fresh air. If not breathing, give artificial respiration. Seek medical
attention immediately if symptoms develop.

Fire Fighting Instructions
In the event of a fire, firefighters should wear full protective clothing and NIOSH-approved self-contained
breathing apparatus with a full facepiece operated in the pressure demand or other positive pressure mode.
Do not scatter material with high pressue water streams.
6. Accidental Release Measures
Where exposure level is known, wear approved respirator suitable for the level of exposure. If exposure is unknown,
wear approved, positive pressure, self-contained respirator. In addition to the protective clothing in Section 8, wear
impermeable boots.
Remove sources of ignition. Stop and contain / dam the spill. Absorb the inert materials (vermiculite / diatomaceous
earth). Shovel material into appropriate container for disposal.
