Section III - Hazard Identification
Routes of Exposure: The talc component of HI-FIBE can affect the body if it is inhaled
or if it comes in contact with the eyes. Polyethylene should not be considered a hazardous
material.
Summary of Acute Health Hazards
Ingestion: N/A
Inhalation: May cause irritation of the respiratory tract.
Skin: N/A
Eyes: May cause irritation of the eyes.
Summary of Chronic Health Hazards: N/A
Signs and Symptoms of Exposure: N/A
Effects of Overexposure: Repeated inhalation of non-asbestos form of talc dust might
cause scarring of the lungs with shortness of breath, chronic cough, and heart failure. The
non-fibrous form of talc may cause irritation of the eyes in the same manner as nuisance
dusts.
Medical Conditions Generally Aggravated by Exposure: N/A
Note to Physicians: Talc is reported to cause decreased pulmonary function.
Examinations of the lungs and cardiovascular system should be performed annually.

Section VI - Accidental Release Measures
Persons should wear protective equipment and clothing. Ventilate the area of the spill.
Collect the spilled material in the most convenient and safe manner for reclamation or for
disposal in a secured sanitary landfill.
Section VII - Handling and Storage
Prevent possible eye and skin contact by wearing protective clothing and equipment.
Other Precautions: Do not store near flames.
Section VIII - Exposure Controls/Personal Protection
Respiratory Protection: Only NIOSH-approved or MSHA-approved equipment should
be used.
Respirator Data: For particulate concentrations of 200 mppcf or less, any dust and mist
respirator, except single-use or quarter-mask respirators, may be used. For concentrations
above 200 mppcf, only high efficiency filter respirators with a full facepiece or a SCBA
should be used.
Ventilation: Mechanical ventilation adequate to keep the dust level below the TLV and
PEL levels.
Protective Clothing: N/A
Eye Protection: Tight fitting goggles for dust only should be worn.
Other Protective Clothing or Equipment: N/A
Work/Hygienic Practices: Avoid contact with the eyes and inhalation of the HI-FIBE
dust. All workers should wash themselves after contact with HI-FIBE.
