Section 3 - Hazard Identification
Emergency Overview: Do not breathe vapors; do not ingest; avoid contact with eyes, skin, or clothing. Wash
thoroughly after handling. Do not eat, drink, or smoke in work areas.
Potential Health Effects
Skin Contact: May cause skin irritation, redness, and some swelling.
Eye Contact: May cause eye irritation, burning sensation with pain. Severe cases may cause corneal or
conjunctival ulceration.
Ingestion: May cause severe burning in the mouth and digestive tract.
Inhalation: May cause irritation to the respiratory tract.
Section 4 - First Aid Measures
Inhalation: Person should be moved to a fresh air environment.
Skin Contact: Remove contaminated clothing and wash affected skin with water. If irritation persists, consult a
physician.
Eye Contact: Flush eyes with large amounts of water for at least 15 minutes. Do not attempt to neutralize with
chemical agents. If irritation persists, consult a physician.
Ingestion: If patient is conscious, give several glasses of water and seek medical attention. Do not induce
vomiting. Do not give an unconscious person anything by mouth.

Extinguishing Media: Carbon dioxide, Water fog, Foam
Special Fire-Fighting Procedures: A MSHA/NIOSH approved self contained breathing apparatus should be
worn. Use water spray to cool fire-exposed containers.
Unusual Fire and Explosion Hazards: Burning of material may release toxic oxides of carbon, nitrogen and sulfur.
Section 6 - Accidental Release/Spill Procedures
Steps to be Taken in Case Material is Released or Spilled: Dike and contain the spill with inert material (ie: sand,
earth, sawdust) and transfer liquid and solid diking material to separate containers for recovery or disposal. Wash floor
area with hot water solution. Remove contaminated clothing and wash before reuse. Wash affected skin areas with soap
and water. Keep spills out of all sewers and bodies of water.
Waste Disposal Method: Dispose of material in accordance with current local, state and federal regulations.

Containers should be kept tightly closed and stored in a cool, dry, and well-ventilated place.

Hand Protection: Rubber, PVC, or impervious chemical gloves
Respiratory Protection: None required for normal operation. Use NIOSH organic vapor cartridge respirator
should vapors become a nuisance.
Eye Protection: Safety glasses.
Skin and Body Protection: Avoid contact with skin. Long clothing is recommended.
Engineering Measures: For normal operation local exhaust ventilation should suffice.

when burned.

The following is reported in technical and trade literature:
LD50 Oral, rat: 2050 mg/Kg
LD50 Dermal, rabbit: Greater than 1150 mg/Kg
Greater than 400 mg as aerosol/M3, 4 hours exposure Note: Formation of toxic fumes and

gases may occur at elevated processing temperatures.
Effect on eyes: Slight irritation (rabbit)
Effect on skin: No irritation (guinea pig). May cause swelling and redness on human skin.
Repeated oral application: In animal experiments on cats, doses of 50 mg/Kg body weight produced functional
disturbances on the central and peripheral nervous system, muscular atrophy, weight loss and susceptibility to infection.
Experiments on New Zealand white rabbits produced similar results.
Toxic amounts of this material can be absorbed through the skin.
