Carbon black is a respirable dust which may cause injury to the respiratory tract if inhaled in
excessive concentrations. The carbon black in those products which are black (BK) is
compounded into the polymer matrix and, thus, is not expected to present the same hazards as
neat carbon black.
This compound may contain varying amounts of polymers, stabilizers, and processing aids.
Except as indicated above, any hazardous chemicals that may be included in these mixtures are
present in concentrations of less than 1.0 percent.

3. HAZARDS IDENTIFICATION
INHALATION: Pellets are not respirable. Thermal processing fumes and vapors
may cause irritation to the nose and throat. Prolonged excessive
dust exposure may cause other symptoms.
INGESTION: Not a probable route of exposure.
SKIN: Pellets or dust in contact with the skin may cause irritation. Contact with
hot or molten polymer may cause thermal burns.
EYES: Pellets or dust may cause mechanical irritation.
PERMISSIBLE CONCENTRATION: Not established for this product.
DELAYED EFFECTS: None known.
4. FIRST AID MEASURES
EYES: Flush eyes with running water for at least 15 minutes. if irritation or
discomfort persists, obtain medical attention.
SKIN: For irritation, flush the skin with cool water, then wash gently with mild
soap and water. If hot polymer burns the skin, immerse burned area in cold
running water and obtain medical attention immediately.
INHALATION: Remove affected individual to fresh air; obtain medical attention for
irritation or other exposure symptom.
INGESTION: Not a probable route of exposure, but avoid ingestion of the product.
5. FIRE FIGHTING MEASURES
FLASH POINT: Not applicable
AUTOIGNITION TEMPERATURE: Not applicable
UPPER FLAMMABLE LIMITS (% Not applicable

6. ACCIDENTAL RELEASE MEASURES
SPILL/LEAK (A LW A Y S W EA R PER SO N A L PR O TEC TIV E E Q U IPM EN T - SEC TIO N 8):
Sweep up or vacuum up material and place it in a container for reuse or disposal.
Caution: Pellets on floor are slippery and can cause falls.
7. HANDLING AND STORAGE
STORAGE: Store in moisture proof containers in a cool and dry area.
NORMAL HANDLING: Wear adequate personal protective equipment. Avoid
breathing vapor or dust. Use with adequate ventilation.
8. EXPOSURE CONTROLS / PERSONAL PROTECTION
VENTILATION: Maintain vapor or dust levels below the permissible TLV
concentration by the of an adequate or mechanical (general) exhaust
system which discharges at a point outside the workplace.
RESPIRATORY PROTECTION: For exposures to thermal processing fumes or
vapors in excess of permissible exposure levels, use
an organic vapor respirator approved by NIOSH.
If dusty conditions exist, use a mechanical filter
respirator approved by NIOSH.
Excessive nuisance dust m ay be irritating to the eyes and breathing passages and m ay cause skin
abrasion. The A m erican C onference of G overnm ental Industrial H ygienists recom m ends a threshold
lim it value (TLV ) of 10 m illigram s per cubic m eter of air for general nuisance dust.
EYES AND FACE: Wear safety glasses with sideshields as a minimum. Do not
wear contact lenses. A faceshield may be added when
processing molten material.
HANDS, ARMS, AND BODY: Wear gloves when handling drums and when handling
hot polymer. Arm protection may be added to protect
against thermal burns.

OTHER CLOTHING AND EQUIPMENT: Should be consistent with user's plant
requirements. An eye wash fountain or
other source of running water is
recommended in or near the work area.
FIRE EXTINGUISHING AGENTS RECOMMENDED: Use water or dry chemical.
SPECIAL FIRE FIGHTING PRECAUTIONS: Wear self-contained breathing
apparatus approved by NIOSH.
SPECIAL PRECAUTIONS/PROCEDURES: None
