III. HAZARDS IDENTIFICATION
HMIS Hazard Rating No. 2 (Moderate)
PRIMARY ROUTE OF ENTRY: INHALATION, DERMAL, EYES
EFFECTS OF OVER EXPOSURE:
INHALATION: Breathing dust may cause nose, throat or lung irritation and choking.
EYES: May cause eye irritation, severe burns and damage to the cornea.
SKIN CONTACT: May cause dry skin, redness, discomfort, irritation or severe burns. May
produce allergic reaction. Thickening of the skin (scleroderma) may be
associated with exposure of high levels of crystalline silica.
SKIN ABSORPTION: No known information available.
INGESTION: Ingestion of large amounts may cause intestinal distress.

CHRONIC: Excessive inhalation of respirable crystalline silica dust may cause progressive,
disabling and sometimes fatal lung disease called silicosis. Symptoms include
cough, shortness of breath, wheezing, non-specific chest illness and reduced
pulmonary function.
The American Conference of Governmental Industrial hygenists classifies
crystalline silica, quartz, as a suspected human carcinogen. The International
Agency for Research on Cancer has determined that crystalline silica in the
form of quartz or cristobalite from occupational sources is carcinogenic in
humans (Group 1 ?carcinogenic to humans). Refer to IARC Monograph 68,
Silica and some Silicates and Organic Fibers ((published June 1997) in
conjunction with the use of these materials. The National Toxicology Program
classifies respirable crystalline silica as "known to be a human carcinogen".
IV. FIRST AID MEASURES
INHALATION: Remove victim from exposure to fresh air. Seek medical attention.
EYES: Rinse carefully with water. Seek medical attention.
SKIN: Wash thoroughly with soap and water. Use moisturizing creams for irritated skin. Seek
medical attention for burns or if irritation persists.
INGESTION: Do not induce vomiting, but drink plenty of water. Seek medical attention for discomfort.
V. FIRE FIGHTING METHODS
HMIS Hazard Rating No. 0
Flash Point: Non Combustible METHOD: SETAFLASH
AUTO-IGNITION TEMP.: None
LIMITS OF FLAMMABILITY: Not combustible
EXTINGUISHING MEDIA: Use extinguishing media appropriate to the surrounding fire.
SPECIAL FIRE FIGHTING PROEDURES AND PRECAUTIONS: This product is not a fire hazard.
Self contained breathing apparatus is recommended to limit exposure to smoke from any combustion
source.
UNUSUAL FIRE AND EXPLOSION HAZARDS: None.
VI. ACCIDENTAL RELEASE MEASURES
ACTION TO TAKE FOR SPILLS/ LEAKS:Wind blown material may cause hazards described in SectionIII.
Use dry clean-up methods that do not disperse dust in the air. Avoid generating or breathing the dust.
WASTE DISPOSAL METHOD: Dispose of in accordance with federal, state and local regulations.
VII. HANDLING AND STORAGE
KEEP DRY
VIII. EXPOSURE CONTROLS/PERSONAL PROTECTION

PERSONAL PROTECTION
RESPIRATORY: Wear a NIOSH approved respirator when dust may be above exposure limits.
EYE: Wear glasses or safety goggles to prevent contact with eyes. Wearing contact lenses when
using this product under dusty conditions is not recommended.
SKIN: Use rubber gloves and protective clothing to prevent skin contact.
ENVIRONMENTAL CONTROLS
Use exhaust ventilation to maintain dust levels below exposure limits in workplaces with poor
ventilation and dusty conditions.

X. STABILITY AND REACTIVITY
HMIS Hazard Rating No. 0
STABILITY: Product is stable, but must be kept dry. Reacts with water forming polymerized silicates and
calcium oxide.
CONDITIONS AND MATERIALS TO AVOID: Dissolves in hydrofluoric acid producing corrosive silicon
tetrafluoride gas. Silicates react with powerful oxidizers such as fluorine, chlorine trifluoride and oxygen
difluoride.
