Section 4: FIRST AID MEASURES
Immediately flush eyes with running water for a minimum of 15 minutes. Hold eyelids open
Eye contact:
during flushing. Obtain medical attention immediately.
In case of contact, immediately remove contaminated clothing and shoes. Immediately flush
Skin contact:
skin with plenty of soap and cold water. Do not use hot water. Wash contaminated clothing and
shoes thoroughly before reuse. For severe exposures, immediately get under safety shower and
start rinsing. If the irritation develops, obtain medical attention.
Move exposed person to fresh air. Keep person warm and at rest. If not breathing, breathing
Inhalation:
irregularly, or if respiratory arrest occurs, provide artificial respiration or oxygen by trained
personnel. Obtain medical attention if adverse health effects persist.
If unconscious, place in recovery position and get medical attention immediately. Maintain an
open airway. Loosen tight clothing such s a collar, tie, belt or waistband.
In case of inhalation of decomposition products in a fire, symptoms may be delayed. The
exposed person may need to be kept under medical surveillance for 48hours.
Wash out mouth with water. Move exposed person to fresh air. Keep person warm and at rest.
Ingestion:
If material has been swallowed and the exposed person is conscious, give small quantities of
milk or water (250 ml) to drink to induce vomiting. Stop if the exposed person feels sick, as
vomiting may be dangerous.
DO NOT induce vomiting unless directed to do so by medical personnel. If vomiting occurs,
the head should be kept low so that vomit does not enter lungs. Get immediate medical attention
if adverse health effects persist or are severe.
Never give anything by mouth to an unconscious person. If unconscious, place in recovery
position and get medical attention immediately. Maintain an open airway. Loosen tight clothing
such as collar, tie, belt or waistband.
No action shall be taken involving any personal risk or without suitable training. If it is
Protection of first-aiders:
suspected that fumes are still present, the rescuer should wear an appropriate mask or self-
contained breathing apparatus. It may be dangerous to the person providing aid to give mouth-
to-mouth resuscitation.
Following severe exposure the patient should be kept under medical review for at least 48
