3. Hazard identification
Emergency overview

WARNING: CAUSES EYE, SKIN AND RESPIRATORY TRACT IRRITATION.
This product contains isocyanates.
Prolonged or repeated skin contact may cause sensitization or allergic reactions.
Avoid contact with the skin, eyes and clothing.
Wash thoroughly after handling.
Keep container tightly closed.

Potential health effects

Primary routes of exposure
Routes of entry for solids and liquids include eye and skin contact, ingestion and inhalation. Routes of entry for
gases include inhalation and eye contact. Skin contact may be a route of entry for liquified gases.

Acute toxicity:
Based on the properties of the isocyanate components and considering toxicological data on similar product,
this product may cause acute irritation and/or sensitization of the respiratory system leading to an asthmatic
condition, wheeziness and tightness of the chest. Sensitized persons may subsequently show asthmatic
symptoms when exposed to atmospheric concentrations well below the occupational exposure limit. Repeated
inhalation may lead to a permanent respiratory disability. Diisocyanates may cause an allergic respiratory
reaction in some individuals, leading to asthma-like spasms of the bronchial tubes and difficulty breathing.

Irritation:
Irritating to eyes, respiratory system and skin.

Sensitization:
May cause sensitization by inhalation and skin contact.

4. First-aid measures
If inhaled:
Remove victim to fresh air and away from exposure immediately. DO NOT USE. Only for the PT phrase
position. If not breathing, give artificial respiration. Seek medical attention.

If on skin:
Remove contaminated clothing. Wash skin with soap and water, rinse abundantly. If symptoms persist, seek
medical advice.

If in eyes:
Flush with copious amounts of water for at least 15 minutes. If symptoms persist, seek medical advice.

If swallowed:
Never induce vomiting or give anything by mouth if the victim is unconscious or having convulsions. Do not
induce vomiting unless told to by a poison control center or doctor. If person is conscious and can swallow,
give two glasses of water.

5. Fire-fighting measures

Suitable extinguishing media:
carbon dioxide, dry extinguishing media, foam, water fog

Hazards during fire-fighting:
nitrous gases, fumes/smoke, isocyanate, vapour

Protective equipment for fire-fighting:
Firefighters should be equipped with self-contained breathing apparatus and turn-out gear.

Further information:
Sealed containers should be protected against heat as this results in pressure build-up. Keep containers cool
by spraying with water if exposed to fire.

6. Accidental release measures
Personal precautions:
Clear area. Ensure adequate ventilation. DO NOT USE. Only for the PT phrase position.

Environmental precautions:
Contain contaminated water/firefighting water. Do not discharge into drains/surface waters/groundwater.

Cleanup:
Dike spillage. Vacuum up spilled product. Pick up with inert absorbent material (if possible). Dispose of
absorbed material in accordance with regulations.

7. Handling and storage
Handling
General advice:
Avoid contact with the skin, eyes and clothing. Ensure thorough ventilation of stores and work areas.

8. Exposure controls and personal protection
Components with workplace control parameters
Diphenylmethane-4,4'-diisocya OSHA CLV 0.02 ppm 0.2 mg/m3 ;
nate (MDI) ACGIH TWA value 0.005 ppm ;

Advice on system design:
Provide local exhaust ventilation to maintain recommended P.E.L.

Personal protective equipment
Respiratory protection:
Wear a NIOSH-certified (or equivalent) respirator as necessary. Wear respiratory protection if ventilation is
inadequate. For situations where the airborne concentrations may exceed the level for which an air purifying
respirator is effective, or where the levels are unknown or Immediately Dangerous to Life or Health (IDLH), use
NIOSH-certified full facepiece pressure demand self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) or a full facepiece
pressure demand supplied-air respirator (SAR) with escape provisions.

Hand protection:
Wear chemical resistant protective gloves.

Eye protection:
Tightly fitting safety goggles (chemical goggles). Wear face shield if splashing hazard exists.

Body protection:
Impermeable protective clothing

General safety and hygiene measures:
Precautions must be taken so that persons handling isocyanates do not breathe the vapors or have it contact
the eyes or skin. Wear protective clothing as necessary to prevent contact. Eye wash fountains and safety
showers must be easily accessible. Observe the appropriate PEL value. Food, beverages, and tobacco
products shall not be carried, stored, or consumed where this material is in use. Hands and/or face should be
washed before breaks and at the end of the shift. Wash soiled clothing immediately. Handle in accordance with
good industrial hygiene and safety practice.
