                                                 MSDS BULLETIN

          Rule 6(A)(5) requires that 鈥淢aterial Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) relative to product ingredients,

          proper use, storage, disposal, and potential hazards for products in use at places of businesses

          that endanger the public shall be kept on the premises and available upon need or request.鈥?



          Since the adoption of this rule, the Office of Barbering and Cosmetology has received several

          calls about which products 鈥渆ndanger the public,鈥? and thus, require a MSDS to be kept on the

          salon premises.



          The following is a list of products that should have a corresponding MSDS available at the salon:

                    Acetone and product removers (solvents)

               鈥?

                    Nail polish remover (for flammability and proper storage info)

               鈥?

                    Acrylic monomer (liquid)

               鈥?

                    Hair color and dye removal products (stripping products)

               鈥?

                    Deep cleaners (professional products only)

               鈥?

                    Developers for hair color

               鈥?

                    Disinfecting products/disinfectants

               鈥?

                    Hair relaxers

               鈥?

                    Hair color

               鈥?

                    Light-cured gel products

               鈥?

                    Lightening bleach for hair highlights

               鈥?

                    Nail glues, adhesives and resins

               鈥?

                    Nail prep solutions

               鈥?

                    Nail primers (both acid and acid-free)

               鈥?

                    Perming solutions

               鈥?

                    Nail Resin/glue activators

               鈥?

                    Skin peels and exfoliating products for advanced esthetic procedures.

               鈥?

Pursuant to the FDA, all manufacturers must have a MSDS for all products produced. The

Office recommends that you contact your supplier or product manufacturer to obtain the

necessary MSDS.



Please note that the failure to have a MSDS at your salon can result in a fine from $100 to $500.
