HEALTH HAZARDS
Health Hazard Corrosive - moderate toxicity. This product has the potential to cause adverse health effects when dust or diluted
forms contact skin, eyes or mucous membranes. Use safe work practices to avoid eye or skin contact & dust
Summary
generation - inhalation. Dust is corrosive when mixed with water or moisture from mucous membranes. Chronic over
exposure may result in liver and kidney damage.
Eye Corrosive - severe irritant. Exposure may result in pain, redness, corneal burns and ulceration with possible
permanent damage with prolonged contact.
Inhalation Irritant. Over exposure may result in irritation of the respiratory tract and mucous membranes, vomiting, diarrhoea
and intense thirst. At high levels; ulceration of the respiratory tract, circulatory failure and coma.

Skin Irritant. Contact may result in itching, pain, redness, rash and dermatitis. Prolonged contact may result in burns.

Ingestion Moderately toxic - corrosive. Ingestion may result in nausea, abdominal pain, vomiting, ulceration and severe burns
of the gastrointestinal tract, intense thirst, circulatory failure and coma. Chronic overexposure may result in kidney
and liver damage.
PRECAUTIONS
Flammability Non flammable. May evolve highly toxic gases (chlorides, hydrogen chloride) when heated to decomposition. May
evolve highly flammable - explosive hydrogen gas when in contact with metals.
Reactivity Incompatible with oxidising agents (eg. hypochlorites, peroxides) and acids (eg. sulfuric acid). Corrosive to some
metals.
Ventilation Do not inhale dusts. Use in well ventilated areas - open doors and windows. In poorly ventilated areas, mechanical
extraction ventilation at source is recommended.

PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT
PPE Wear coveralls, dust-proof goggles and PVC or rubber gloves. Where an inhalation risk exists, wear a Class P1
(Particulate) Respirator. At high dust levels, wear an Air-line respirator or a Class P3 (Particulate) respirator.

Product Name
FIRST AID
Eye Hold eyelids apart and flush the eye continuously with running water. Continue flushing until advised to stop by the
Poisons Information Centre, or for at least 15 minutes.
Inhalation If exposure occurs leave exposure area immediately. If irritation persists, seek medical attention.

Skin Remove contaminated clothing and gently flush affected areas with water. Seek medical attention if irritation
develops. Launder clothing before reuse.

Ingestion For advice, contact a Poisons Information Centre on 13 11 26 (Australia Wide) or a doctor. If swallowed, do not
induce vomiting.

SAFE HANDLING
Storage Store in cool, dry, well ventilated area, removed from oxidising agents (eg. hypochlorites), acids, metals and
foodstuffs. Ensure containers are adequately labelled, protected from physical damage and sealed when not in use.
Large storage areas should have appropriate ventilation systems.

Waste Disposal For small amounts, cover with moist sand or similar, collect and dispose of to an approved landfill site. Avoid
generating dust. Contact the manufacturer for additional information.

Transport Class 8 Corrosive. Do not transport with chemicals of class; 1 (Explosives), 4.3 (Dangerous When Wet), 5.1
(Oxidising agents), 5.2 (Organic peroxides), 6 (Toxics - where the Toxic is a cyanide and the Corrosive is an acid), 7
(Radioactives), 8 (where products are acid/alkali) and foodstuffs.

EMERGENCY
Spillage If spilt (bulk), contact emergency services if appropriate. Wear dust-proof goggles, PVC/rubber gloves, a Class P1
(Particulate) respirator (where an inhalation risk exists), coveralls and rubber boots. Clear area of all unprotected
personnel. Prevent spill entering drains or waterways. Collect and place in sealable containers for disposal or reuse.
Avoid generating dust.

Environment Soluble iron salts may be toxic to animals (at ~500 ppm), fish (at ~100 ppm) and aquatic microorganisms. Levels in
drinking water should be below 3 ppm.

Fire and Non flammable. If product is present in a fire, toxic gases may be evolved. Evacuate area and contact emergency
services. Remain upwind and notify those downwind of hazard. Wear full protective equipment including Self
Explosion
Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) when combating fire. Use waterfog to cool intact containers and nearby
storage areas.

Extinguishing Non flammable. Prevent contamination of drains or waterways, absorb runoff with sand or similar.
