ROUTES OF ENTRY & POTENTIAL HEALTH EFFECTS:
EYES: May cause eye irritation. Wear tight fitting goggles in dusty conditions.
SKIN: May cause skin irritation. Wear protective clothing in dusty conditions.
INGESTION: May be harmful if swallowed.
INHALATION: WARNING: This product contains crystalline silica. Long-term overexposure to crystalline silica
causes silicosis, a form of pulmonary fibrosis. Continued overexposure to silica can lead to cardiopulmonary
impairment. Crystalline silica has been reviewed by IARC. IARC found sufficient evidence in humans for the
carcinogenicity of inhaled crystalline silica in the form of quartz or cristobalite from occupational sources.
CHRONIC HEALTH HAZARDS: None known.
MEDICAL CONDITIONS GENERALLY AGGRAVATED BY EXPOSURE: None known.

INGESTION: If swallowed, do not induce vomiting. Drink water. Seek medical attention.
INHALATION: If inhaled, move person to fresh air. Seek medical attention if symptoms occur.

SECTION 5: FIRE-FIGHTING MEASURES

SECTION 6: ACCIDENTAL RELEASE MEASURES

STEPS TO BE TAKEN IF MATERIAL IS RELEASED OR SPILLED: Scoop up dry material. Scrape wet material and
place in appropriate container. Avoid dust formation. Do not breathe dust. Dispose of according to local, state and
federal regulations.
PERSONAL PRECAUTIONS: Wash thoroughly after contact with dust or wet mixtures.
ENVIRONMENTAL PRECAUTIONS: None listed.

SECTION 7: HANDLING AND STORAGE

HANDLING AND STORAGE: Handle this product in accordance with good industrial hygiene and safety practices.
Use proper and adequate ventilation with dust collection to maintain airborne levels of crystalline silica to below the
PEL. Keep out of reach of children. Keep containers tightly closed. Store in a well ventilated area. Avoid dust
formation. Do not breathe dust.

Note: Quartz is incompatible with oxidizers such as hydrofluoric acid, fluorine, chlorine trifluoride, or oxygen difluoride.

SECTION 8: EXPOSURE CONTROLS/PERSONAL PROTECTION

VENTILATION: Use with adequate ventilation.
EYE PROTECTION: Wear tight fitting goggles if there is potential for exposure to particles which could cause eye
discomfort.
SKIN PROTECTION: Wear protective clothing in dusty conditions. Anti-static clothing is recommended.
WORK HYGIENIC PRACTICES: Do not consume food in work area. Wash hands before smoking or eating.
RESPIRATORY PROTECTION: Use a NIOSH approved respiratory protection when there is a potential to exceed
exposure guidelines (see table below). Appropriate respiratory protection for respirable crystalline silica is based on
the airborne exposure concentration and duration of exposure for the particular use of a respirator. A respiratory
protection program in accordance with OSHA Standard 29 CFR 1910.134 must be implemented whenever workplace
conditions warrant use of a respirator. NIOSH recommends the use of respiratory protection when effective
engineering controls are not feasible, or while they are being installed to control workplace exposure to crystalline
silica.

AIRBORNE CRYSTALLINE SILICA MINIMUM RESPIRATORY PROTECTION
CONCENTRATION
Up to 0.5 mg/m3 Any air-purifying respirator with a high efficiency particulate (HEPA) air
filter.
Up to 1.25 mg/m3 Any powered, air-purifying, full-face piece respirator with a HEPA filter.
Any supplied-air respirator operated in a continuous-flow mode.
Up to 2.5 mg/m3 Any powered, air-purifying, full-face piece respirator with a HEPA filter.
Any powered, air-purifying respirator with a tight fitting face piece and
HEPA filter.
Up to 25 mg/m3 Any supplied-air respirator operated in a pressure-demand or other
positive pressure mode.
Emergency or Planned Entry into Up to 500mg/m3: Any self-contained breathing apparatus with a full-face
Unknown Concentrations or Immediately piece and is operated in pressure-demand mode or other positive
Dangerous to Life or Health (IDLH) pressure mode. Any supplied-air respirator that has a full face piece and
Conditions is operated in a pressure-demand or other positive-pressure mode in
combination with an auxiliary self-contained positive-pressure breathing
apparatus.
Escape Any air-purifying, full-face piece respirator with a HEPA filter. Any
appropriated escape-type, self-contained breathing apparatus.
Use only NIOSH-approved respiratory protection. See 29 CFR 1910.134 and 42 CFR 84. See also ANSI
standard Z88.2 (latest revision) "American National Standard for Respiratory Protection."
