Health and Hazard Information -
Health Effects:
Acute:
If accidentally ingested, get medical attention immediately.
Swallowed:
Pure ivermectin is considered highly toxic in acute animal
studies. The acute oral toxicity studies of ivermectin have
shown clear difference among species in sensitivity to
ivermectin toxicity. Rodents are uniquely sensitive
compared to the other species in which the compound has
been tested. It is therefore inappropriate to base human risk
assessment on the response in mice. Ivermectin is used at
a therapeutic dose of 200mcg/kg in a variety of species
including human. Ivermectin can be excreted in milk.
If overexposed to ivermectin, symptoms may include
decreased activity, slow rate of breathing, dilation of the
pupils, muscle tremors and incoordination.
Glycerol formal is practically non-toxic in animal studies, but
high doses did cause somnolence.
Under normal conditions of use, no eye contact is expected.
Eye:
Direct contact of the solution with eyes can cause irritation.

Health Effects (continued):
Under normal conditions of use, no skin contact is expected.
Skin:
The skin absorption potential of this formulation is unknown.
However, the acute dermal LD50 of ivermectin in rabbits is
406 mg/kg. Skin absorption of glycerol formal may be a
potential route of exposure.
Not an expected route of exposure for this formulation.
Inhaled:
Unknown for product mixture. Pure ivermectin given orally
Chronic:
to dogs and monkeys for three months caused pupil dilation,
body weight losses, emesis, tremors, ataxia, anorexia and
dehydration. Rats exposed in utero through lactation, and
for an additional three months, showed signs indicative of
intravascular haemolysis. Ivermectin is a reproductive toxin
in mice and rats only at doses that cause toxicity to the
mother; however, in rabbits fetotoxicity and teratogenicity
were noted at doses not toxic to the mother. In chronic
studies in rabbits, rats, and dogs, glycerol formal caused
testicular atrophy. This effect was seen only at doses
greater than 288 mg/kg/day. Glycerol formal causes
embryo-and fetotoxicity and teratogenicity in rats by the oral,
subcutaneous, and intramuscular routes. The no-effect
level established for teratogenicity is 75 mg/kg/day and for
fetotoxicity, it is 10 mg/kg/day.
First Aid:
If poisoning occurs contact a doctor or Poisons Information
Swallowed:
Centre.
Flush thoroughly with plenty of water for at least 15 minutes.
Eye:
Get medical attention if irritation occurs or persists.
Flush thoroughly with plenty of water and wash contact area
Skin:
with soap and water. Remove contaminated clothing and
wash before reuse. If irritation occurs or persists, get
medical attention.
In case of accidental overexposure, get to fresh air. If
Inhaled:
irritation occurs or persists, get medical attention.
Medical conditions aggravated by exposure - none known.
Advice to Doctor:
Not listed with the international agency for research on
cancer. Treatment is symptomatic.
Since ivermectin is believed to produce effects that mimic
enhancement of GABA activity in animals, it is probably wise
to avoid drugs that enhance GABA activity (barbiturates,
benzodiazepines, valproic acid) in patients with potentially
toxic ivermectin exposure.
Overexposure to ivermectin may cause somnolence,
depressed motor activity, slowed breathing, dilation of the
pupils, tremors, vomiting, anorexia and incoordination.

Store bottle in carton to protect from light and store below
Storage and Transport:

In case of a spill or leak, isolate the hazard area and keep
Spills and Disposal:
unnecessary people away.
Personnel involved in cleanup should wear full protective
clothing (cap, waterproof coveralls and jacket, and rubber
boots). Wear goggles and impervious rubber gloves
(neoprene/nitrile/ polyvinyl chloride) when handling spilled
material.
Absorb small spills on spill pillows or other suitable
absorbing material and place in a sealed container for
disposal. Dyke large spills and transfer to an appropriate
container for disposal. Contact emergency response
personnel for large spills. Keep unnecessary persons away.
Ivermectin binds well with the soil and other solid materials
which inhibit soil migration. Soak up with sand or other non-
combustible absorbent material and containerise
contaminated material in a suitable drum for destruction by
incineration. Label drums as required. Residual surface
contamination can be removed with an alcohol wipe.
Thoroughly clean all non-disposable items contaminated or
used in the cleanup. Run-off from fire control or dilution with
water may cause water pollution. Heavily contaminated soil
near water sources should be removed and containerised
for decontamination by incineration.

In the presence of sunlight, residual ivermectin will degrade
Disposal:
in a short period of time. Contaminated water can also be
treated by carbon adsorption. Combustible contaminated
material should be burned for complete destruction. Such
incineration must be performed according to applicable
governmental regulations. Material should be disposed of in
landfill approved for pesticide containers. Ivermectin is very
toxic to certain aquatic species. Avoid contact of spilled
materials and run-off with soil and surface waterways.
Residual surface material should be removed with towels
moistened with methanol.
