Environmental Note: N/A.
SECTION 6 ?ACCIDENTAL RELEASE MEASURES
Eliminate all sources of ignition. Consider initial downwind evacuation of at least 300m (1000ft) for
large spills. If tank, rail car or tank truck is involved in a fire, ISOLATE for 800m (0.5 mile) in all
directions, also, consider initial evacuation of 800m (0.5 mile) in all directions. Keep unauthorized
personnel away. Stay upwind and keep out of low areas. Ventilate closed spaces before entering.
Contain and recover. Prevent from entering sewers and waterways. Clean-up personnel should wear
protective equipment to prevent contact.
SECTION 7 ?HANDLING AND STORAGE
Containers should be grounded and/or bonded when material is transferred. Store in a cool, dry place.
Keep away from heat, sparks, flames, and strong oxidizers. Do not eat, drink or smoke in storage
areas.
SECTION 8 ?EXPOSURE CONTROLS AND PERSONAL PROTECTION
Respiratory Protection: NIOSH approved respiratory protection for organic vapors.
Ventilation: Utilize local exhaust to control high vapor connections in confined areas.
Protective Gloves: Utilize appropriate impervious chemical gloves.

Eye Protection: Chemical goggles and face shield. Have eyewash facilities readily available.
Other Protective Wear additional protective clothing to prevent skin contact. This may include
Equipment: chemical resistant boots and chemical resistant suits.
Work Practices: Use good personal hygiene practices. Wash hands before eating, drinking,
smoking or using toilet facilities. Promptly remove soiled clothing and wash
thoroughly before reuse. Shower after work using plenty of soap and water.

SECTION 12 ?ECOLOGICAL INFORMATION
The following information is for 1,2,4-Trimethylbenzene.
LC50: 7.72 mg/l/96Hour: fathead minnow (pimephales promelas)
This compound is expected to rapidly volatize from surface water (U.S. EPA 1987a). The
volatilization half-life from a river model is expected to be 3.4 hours (U.S. EPA 1988a). In the
atmosphere, two estimates of the half-life are approximately 6 hours (U.S. EPA 1987a) and, in the
presence of hydroxyl radicals, 0.5 days (CHEMFATE 1994). In the soil, volatilization is the major
route of removal from soils; although, biodegradation may also occur (U.S. EPA 1987a). The
estimated bioconcentration factor (439) and high volatility of this material indicates that
bioaccumulation of the chemical will not be significant (U.S. EPA 1987a).
