SECTION 3 ?HAZARD IDENTIFICATION

Each cell is hermetically sealed, but has a vent that will open under extreme mechanical, electrical or
thermal abuse. This could allow the liquid and dissolved solid chemicals listed above to escape and
exposure of harmful ingredients may occur.

The cells should not be short-circuited, force discharged, overcharged, punctured, crushed, heated or
incinerated.

SECTION 4 ?FIRST AID MEASURES
In the event of electrolyte leakage or escape of electrolyte through the vent:

Flush with copious amounts of water for 15 minutes. Seek medical assistance
Eyes
if required.
Remove any excess material and wash skin with soap and copious amounts
Skin
of water.
Remove to uncontaminated area, rest and keep warm. Seek medical
Inhalation
assistance if required.
Wash out mouth thoroughly with water then give plenty of water to drink.
Ingestion
Obtain medical assistance.
Eye contamination, persistent skin irritation and casualties who have
Further Treatment swallowed electrolyte or been affected by inhalation of vapour should be
examined by a doctor.

SECTION 5 FIRE FIGHTING MEASURES
Flammability Battery electrolyte is a flammable liquid and may be ignited by heat, sparks or flame.
Means of
Dry chemical, CO?or copious water spray (no lithium metal is present).
Extinguishing
Hazardous
Combustion Carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide, lithium, nickel and cobalt oxides, hydrogen fluoride.
Products
Special
For fires involving large quantities of product, use self-contained breathing apparatus
Protective
and full protective clothing.
Equipment

SECTION 6 ?ACCIDENTAL RELEASE MEASURES
Notify safety personnel of large spillages of electrolyte from ruptured or vented cells. Avoid inhaling
vapours and increase ventilation. Avoid eye or skin contact. Prevent run-off to watercourses by
absorbing liquid with an appropriate absorbent material, and transfer to sealable containers together
with ruptured cells. Dispose of as special waste as described in section 13.

SECTION 7 ?HANDLING AND STORAGE

Do not short circuits, force discharge, overcharge, puncture, crush, heat or
Handling
incinerate.
Store in a cool place but prevent condensation forming on cells. Elevated
Storage storage temperatures (e.g. Above 40篊) will result in reduced cell life and
degraded performance. Store such that mechanical damage cannot occur.

SECTION 8 ?EXPOSURE CONTROLS AND PERSONEL PROTECTION

Exposure No exposure can occur during normal usage.
For fires involving large quantities of product, use
self-contained breathing apparatus and full
Personal Protection
protective clothing. In the event of leakage, wear
gloves, safety glasses and chemical apron.

electrolyte leakage and/or cell fire. Dispose of in accordance with appropriate local regulations.

SECTION 14 ?TRANSPORT INFORMATION

The INR 36550 and INR34600 cells are classed as dangerous good under the UN Recommendations
th
on the Transport of Dangerous Goods Model regulations, 15 Edition (ST/SG/AC.10/1/Rev 15) Since
the Watt-Hour rating for each cell is greater than 20 Wh. To enable them to be shipped as Class 9
goods, they have been tested in accordance with the third revised edition of the UN Recommendations
on the Transport of Dangerous Goods, Manual of Test and Criteria (ST/SG/AC.10/11/Rev.3/Amend.1).
