HEALTH EFFECTS - ACUTE
N ?Methyl ?2 pyrolidone (NMP) administerd to pregnant female rats, at a high dose level
of 750 mg/kg body weight, caused maternal and feto toxicity in some animals. In a dermal
study NMP was embryotoxic in a very high dose level, this was attributed to maternal
toxicity. In inhalation studies NMP was not maternal or embryo toxic, and did not cause
carcinogenic or other life threatening effects in rats at 10 and 100 ppm level over two years.
This hardener is added at very low doses (less than 2%) to the graffiti proof clear. At these
low concentrations the hazardous components are below the threshold values as specified
in the list of Designated Hazardous Substances. The mixture is therefore classified as non
hazardous but it is still important to take care when using this product.
