SECTION 3 HAZARD IDENTIFICATION
SYMPTOMS OF OVER-EXPOSURE FOR EACH POTENTIAL ROUTE OF EXPOSURE.

INHALATION: Fumes can cause severe irritation to the upper respiratory tract and
nose, resulting in coughing, sneezing and difficulty in breathing.


CONTACT WITH SKIN OR EYES: Causes severe burns with possible permanent damage.


ABSORBED THROUGH SKIN: May cause irritation.


SWALLOWED: Produces severe burns to mouth, stomach and gastrointestinal tract.
Can result in possible death.

HEALTH EFFECTS OR RISKS FROM EXPOSURE. EXPLAIN IN LAY TERMS.

ACUTE: Contact with eyes may cause blindness. Contact with skin may cause severe burns.
Inhalation may cause swelling of the upper respiratory tract and accumulation of fluid in
the lungs (pulmonary edema).

CHRONIC: Moderately irritating to eyes. Repeated or prolonged contact with skin may cause dermatitis.
If ingested, may cause gastrointestinal tract damage. Chronic overexposure to tin
compounds has resulted in stannosis, a benign pneumoconiosis.

SECTION 4 FIRST AID MEASURES
FIRST AID: EMERGENCY PROCEDURES

EYE CONTACT: Flush with water, including under lids, for fifteen minutes. Obtain immediate medical
attention.

SKIN CONTACT: Remove contaminated clothing and wash affected area thoroughly with soap and
water. Launder clothing before rewearing. Seek medical attention for prolonged skin irritation.

INHALED: Remove patient to fresh air. Support breathing if required. Obtain medical treatment for
dizziness, unconsciousness or irritation or difficulty in breathing.

SWALLOWED: If patient is conscious, rinse mouth and drink at least two large glasses of water. DO NOT
induce vomiting. Never give anything by mouth to an unconscious person. Obtain immediate medical
attention.

STEPS TO BE TAKEN IN CASE MATERIAL IS RELEASED OR SPILLED:
Dike to prevent spread of spill. Dilute to twice the volume with water. Neutralize by means of slow and
careful applications of a solution of soda ash and water. Dispose of material, containers and washings in
compliance with all applicable regulations. Do not allow this material to enter storm or sanitary sewers.

SECTION 7 HANDLING AND STORAGE
HANDLING AND STORAGE REQUIREMENTS: Keep container tightly closed. Store in a cool dry area
away from excessive heat and open flame. Never use pressure to empty drums. Keep closure upright to
prevent leakage. Do not reuse drums. Do not use containers as dilution or mixing vessel.

VENTILATION: Local exhaust required, mechanical is recommended.

RESPIRATORY PROTECTION: NIOSH/MSHA approved respirator with canister for sulfur oxides
in a major spill.

OTHER CLOTHING AND EQUIPMENT: Acid resistant apron and rubber boots.

WORK PRACTICES, HYGIENIC PRACTICES: Wash thoroughly after handling and before eating or
