safety data sheets are included on the attached sheets. All other components of the kit consist of aqueous
solutions containing buffers none of which are thought to present any health hazard. The information listed below

PHYSICAL DATA
Acid Phenol:Chloroform consists of Phenol and Chloroform at a 5:1 ratio, at a pH of 4.7
Appearance and Odor Colorless to slightly yellow liquid.

TOXICITY and HEALTH HAZARDS
Poisonous - Readily Absorbed through Skin. Take precautions to avoid contact or ingestion. If skin
contact occurs clean immediately. If ingested, seek medical attention immediately. Chlorophorm is a
suspected carcinogen.
Emergency First Aid Wash affected area with copious amounts of water for at least 15 minutes and
then soap and water. Speed in removing material from skin is extremely
important. Use safety shower. Call physician let them know you have been
exposed to phenol - a very corrosive and caustic solution.
Effects of Overexposure Severe Irritation to eyes, nose, throat. May cause nausea and dizziness. Causes
damage to skin with any exposure. May be fatal if swallowed.

Phenol:Chloroform:IAA consists of Phenol, chloroform and isoamyl alcohol at a ratio of 25:24:1, (at a pH of 6.6)
Appearance and Odor Colorless to slightly yellow liquid.

Also included with the Phenol:Chloroform is a bottle of a tris based alkaline buffer which does not present a hazard.
