3. HAZARD IDENTIFICATION (cont.)
ACUTE HEALTH EFFECTS
Swallowed: Not a likely source of exposure, however, harmful if swallowed, will cause irritation and
chemical burns to contacted tissues. Symptoms may include nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain and diarrhea.
Eye: Corrosive. Product vapour in low concentration can cause lacrimation, conjunctivitis and
corneal edema when absorbed in to the tissue .of the eye from the atmosphere. Burns to the eye may cause
blindness. Contact of undiluted product with the eyes causes severe irritation and pain and may cause burns,
necrosis and permanent injuries.
Skin: Corrosive. Will cause severe irritation and chemical burns to the skin, necrosis and tissue
damage. The product can also be absorbed through the skin resulting in nausea, headache and general
discomfort.
Inhaled: Harmful if inhaled. Inhalation of vapours, aerosols and mist may cause severe damage to
contacted tissues and produce scarring.
Chronic Product is a skin sensitizer. Prolonged or repeated contact with this material may result in
allergic reactions/sensitization, adverse respiratory effects (such as cough, tightness of
chest. Effects from inhalation may be delayed. Dryness of nasal passages and sore throat
can be experienced when .material is inhaled or a long period of time.
Pre-existing conditions such as; asthma, chronic respiratory diseases (Bronchitis,
emphysema), eye diseases, skin disorders and allergies can be aggravated by exposure.
4. FIRST AID MEASURES
Swallowed DO NOT induce vomiting. Administer 3 or 4 glasses of milk or water. Seek medical
advice.
Eye If contact with the eye(s) occurs, holding eyelids apart, wash with copious amounts
of water for approximately 15 minutes holding eyelid(s) open. Take care not to rinse
contaminated water into the non-effected eye. Seek medical attention.
Skin Remove all contaminated clothing. Remove product and wash immediately with
soap and water. Cover the affected area with sterile dressing or clean sheeting and
transport for medical attention. Do not apply greases or ointments. Control shock if
present. Clean contaminated clothing before re-using.
Inhaled Move the victim to fresh air. Give assisted respiration (e.g. mouth to mouth) if
breathing is difficult or has ceased. Supplemental oxygen may be indicated. If victim
has stopped breathing begin artificial respiration, Seek medical attention. Prevent
aspiration of vomit by turning patient's head to the side.
First Aid Facilities Eye wash and normal washroom facilities.
Advice to Doctor Treat symptomatically or consult a Poisons Information Centre. Caution should be
taken when performing gastric lavage due to the corrosive nature of this product.

clothing to minimise skin exposure.
Extinguishing Media Water fog (not a direct stream of water), foam, carbon dioxide and dry
chemicals.
Hazchem Code 3X
6. ACCIDENTAL RELEASE MEASURES
Spills & Leaks remove source of ignition. Increase ventilation. Wear sufficient respiratory
protection and full protective clothing to minimise skin exposure. If possible, contain
the spill. Place inert absorbent such as vermiculite, sand or dirt onto material. Use
clean tools to collect the material and place into a suitable labelled container. Do
not dilute material but contain. Mop up the remaining material and place into the
same container.

8. EXPOSURE CONTROLS / PERSONAL PROTECTION
Exposure Standards
No exposure standards have been established for this product by Worksafe Australia
However; components

Engineering Controls
Where mists or vapours are generated exhaust ventilation should be provided to maintain airborne
concentration levels to a level as low as reasonably practicable.
Personal Protection Equipment Avoid contact with the skin and eyes and avoid breathing vapours or
mists. Use personal protective equipment in a combination appropriate to the degree and nature of
exposure should be selected from the following list:
CLOTHING: PVC apron and sleeves, or full PVC covering, safety shoes/boots.
GLOVES: PVC.
EYES: Safety glasses with side-shields, chemical goggles or face shield to protect eyes.
Where the concentration of vapour or mist is expected to approach the exposure limit, the following
additional equipment is recommended;
1. Short elevated exposures eg spillage ?goggles and correct respiratory
protection should be worn. NB If the vapour/mist concentrations exceed
the exposure limit by more than 10 times, air supplied apparatus should
be used.
2. For prolonged elevated exposures ?full face air supplied or self
contained breathing apparatus should be worn.
CONTAMINATION:
If contamination occurs, change clothing and discard internally contaminated gloves and footwear. Launder
contaminated clothing before reuse. Observe good personal hygiene.
RESPIRATORY PROTECTION: Avoid breathing of vapours/gases. Select and use respirators in accordance
with AS/NZS 1715/1716. When gases exceed the exposure standards then the use of a half-face respirator
with organic vapour cartridge is recommended. For high concentration use an atmosphere-supplied, positive
pressure demand self-contained or airline breathing apparatus, complying with the requirements of AS/NZS
1715 is recommended. Filter capacity and respirator type depends on exposure levels and type of
contaminant.
If entering spaces where the airborne concentration of a contaminant is unknown then the use of a Self-
contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) with positive pressure air supply complying with AS/NZS 1715 / 1716,
or any other acceptable International Standard is recommended.
