Section 3: Hazards Information

Risk of damage to eyes. Prolonged contact with skin may cause possible dermatitis.
Occupational Exposure Limit (OEL) TLV = 2 mg (Al)/m3 as TWA.




Section 4: First Aid Measures

Inhalation: Leave the area immediately. If symptoms occur seek medical advice.

Skin Contact: Remove contaminated clothing and wash affected area with copious
quantities of water.

Eye Contact: Immediately irrigate with water for at least 10 minutes. Seek medical
attention

Ingestion: Provided patient is conscious wash out mouth with water and give 5% Sodium
Bicarbonate solution followed by a demulcent such as milk.



Section 5: Fire fighting measures

Any material saturated with this product would not be subject to spontaneous combustion.

Extinguishing Media: Water or dry powder may be used in the vicinity of Aluminium Sulfate,
keep containers cool with copious amounts of water.

Firefighting Equipment: Wear full protective clothing. Unusual Fire and Explosive
Hazards In contact with metals, Aluminium Sulfate may liberate the
flammable gas Hydrogen.



Section 6: Accidental release measures

If spillage or contaminated washings enter water courses or drains inform relevant
authorities.

Small Spillage: Wash away with large quantities of water.
Large Spillage: Neutralise with Lime or Soda Ash then dispose of according to local
regulations. Water can be used if washings can go to drain.
Personal Precautions: Wear full protective clothing.
Neutralising Chemicals: Hydrated Lime or Soda Ash.


Section 7: Handling and Storage

Handling : Avoid contact with skin and eyes Keep away from metals, organic materials,
nitrates, chlorates and carbides.
Storage : Bulk quantities should be stored in Stainless Steel, rubber 鈥? lined mild - steel
or plastic tanks.
For small packages polyethylene or double skinned polyethylene containers
are acceptable.

Controls The control measures appropriate for a particular
worksite depend on
how this material is used and on the extent of exposure.
The best protection is to enclose operations and/or
provide local exhaust
ventilation at the site of chemical release.
Use a non-sparking, grounded ventilation system
separate from other
exhaust ventilation systems. Exhaust directly to the
outside.
Supply sufficient replacement air to make up for air
removed.
Have a safety shower/eye wash fountain readily available
in the
immediate work area
Personal Protection: If engineering controls and work practices are not
effective in
controlling this material, then wear suitable personal
protection
equipment, including chemical safety goggles & face
shield, boots,
imperious gloves, coveralls, & respiratory protection.
Have appropriate equipment available for use in
emergencies.

Some oxidising agents. Eg Chlorites and Hypochlorites. Attacks most
metals liberating
Hydrogen.

Hazardous Decomposition Products: Could emit toxic oxides of Sulpur when heated to
decomposition.


Section 11: Toxicological Information

Acute effects of over exposure when:

In contact with skin: Irritant - after prolonged contact with skin produces sores and possible
dermatitis.
In contact with eyes: Irritates immediately and could cause severe damage which
could lead to permanent
visual defects or even total loss of vision.
Inhaled : May cause irritation to the mucous membrane of the respiratory tract.
Ingested : Very astringent to mouth, nose and throat, normally followed by rapid
expectoration.
Long Term Exposure: Aluminium accumulates in the brain tissue, resulting in seizures
and brain dysfunction.
Toxicity Data: LD50 6207mg/kg (Oral-Mouse)

No ecological problems are expected when the product is handled and used with due care.


Section 13: Disposal Considerations

Disposal Method Product: There are no uniform EC regulations for the disposal of
chemicals or residues.
Chemical residues generally count as special waste. The
disposal of the latter is
regulated in the EC member countries through corresponding
laws and
regulations.
We recommend that you contact the authorities in charge or
approved waste
disposal companies which will advise you on how to dispose of
special waste.
