                                           MATERIAL SAFETY DATA SHEET

I PRODUCT IDENTIFICATION

Trade Name: Silver Iodide Chemical Nature: Inorganic Salt
Formula: AG-I CAS #: 7783-96-2

II HAZARDOUS INGREDIENTS

Percent: 100 Other Contaminants: None Exposure Limits:Not Established

III PHYSICAL DATA

1026 oF (552 oC)
Boiling Point: No Data Melting Point:
Specific Gravity: 5.7 % Volatiles by Weight: N/A
Solvent Solubility: Alkali Cyanides, Thiosulfates, and Iodides Solubility in H2O: Insoluble
Appearance and Odor: Light yellow, odorless powder, slowly darkened by light.

IV FIRE AND EXPLOSION HAZARDS DATA

Flash Point (Method used): Not Flammable Flammable Limits: UFL: N/A Lower: N/A
Firefighting Media: Dry chemical, carbon dioxide, water spray of foam. For larger fires, use water spray, fog or alcohol foam (1984
emergency response guidebook, DOT P 5800.3)

Fire and Explosion Hazard: Negligible fire and Negligible explosion hazard in dust form when exposed to heat or flame.
Special Fire Fighting Procedures: No acute hazard. Move container from fire area if possible. Avoid breathing vapors or dusts,
keep upwind.

V HEALTH HAZARD INFORMATION

CERCLA Ratings (Scale 0-3): Health=U Fire=O Reactivity=O Persistence=3
Threshold Limit Value: 0.01 mg/m3

Effects of Over Exposure: As solid no known effects
Toxicity: Carcinogen status - none insoluble silver salts are considered non-irritating and relatively non-toxic.

EMERGENCY AND FIRST AID PROCEDURES:

EYES: Wash eyes immediately with large amounts of water, occasionally lifting upper and lower lids, until no evidence of chemical
remains (approximately 15-21 minutes). Get medical attention immediately.
SKIN: Remove contaminated clothing and shoes immediately. Wash affected area with soap or mild detergent and large amounts of
water until no evidence of chemical remains (approximately 10- 20 minutes). Get medical attention immediately.
INHALATION: Remove from exposure area to fresh air immediately. If breathing has stopped, perform artificial respiration. Keep
affected person warm and at rest. Get medical attention immediately.
INGESTION: If victim is conscious, immediately give 2 to 4 glasses of water and induce vomiting by touching finger to back of
throat. Get medical attention immediately.
VI REACTIVITY DATA

Stability: Stable under normal temperatures and pressures.

Incompatibility (Material to Avoid): Silver Iodide forms impact sensitive systems with Sodium and Potassium. Silver salts and
acetylene form acetylides from ammoniacal solutions. The dried acetylides are extremely sensitive and violent. Silver salts form
explosive materials spontaneously with nitromethane. They darken on exposure to light.

Hazardous Decomposition Products: Thermal decomposition products may be corrosive fumes of hydrogen iodide.
Hazardous Polymerization: Hazardous polymerization has not been reported to occur under normal temperatures and pressures.

VII SPILL OR LEAK PROCEDURES

Steps to Be Taken If Spilled or Released: Ventilate confined spaces. sweep up, avoiding dispersion of dust, and collect in suitable
container.

Waste Disposal Method: In accordance with governmental regulations.

VIII SPECIAL PROTECTION INFORMATION

Respiratory Protection (Specify Type):

Ventilation: Process enclosure, local exhaust, or general dilution ventilation system.
Respirator: High Levels - High efficiency particulate respirator with a full facepiece. Supplied air respirator with a full facepiece,
helmet or hood. Self-contained breathing apparatus with a full facepiece. Firefighting- Self contained breathing apparatus with a full
facepiece, operated in pressure demand or other positive pressure mode.

Protective Gloves: Are not required but recommended.
Eye Protection: Employee must wear splash-proof or dust-resistant safety goggles to prevent eye contact with this substance.

Clothing: Protective clothing not required. Avoid repeated or prolonged contact with this substance.
Other Protective Equipment: Lab coat and apron

IX SPECIAL PRECAUTIONS

Conditions to Avoid: Heating to decomposition and contact with incompatible substances.
