7. HANDLING AND STORAGE
Precautions for Safe Handling:
Toxic and corrosive liquid. Avoid contact with caustics. Do not get in eyes. Avoid direct or prolonged contact with skin.
Provide adequate ventilation.

Conditions for Safe Storage:
Keep containers tightly closed, when not using the product. Store in original packages as approved by manufacturer.

Store away from strong alkalis, acids and oxidizing agents. For further information please refer to the Engineering
Controls of this MSDS.

8. EXPOSURE CONTROLS / PERSONAL PROTECTION
Exposure Standards

No exposure standards are available for this product, however, the following exposure standards have been assigned by
[NOHSC] to the following components of the product:

m-PHENYLENEDIAMINE
[NOHSC]
[TWA]0.1 mg/m3

Notices: Sk;Sen

References: A

Sk Notation:
The main route of most hazardous substances into the body is via inhalation, however, certain substances such as
ethylene glycol monoethyl ether can readily penetrate the skin, with resultant toxic effects. The notice 'Sk' indicates that
absorption can occur through the skin.

Sen Notation:
Some substances can cause a specific immune response in some people. Such substances are called sensitisers and the
development of a specific immune response is termed 'sensitisation'. Exposure to a sensitiser, once sensitisation has
occurred, may manifest itself as a skin rash or inflammation or as an asthmatic condition, in many situations, only a
small dose which may be far below a TWA or STEL, in some susceptible individuals this may trigger violent and
severe adverse reactions.

DIETHYLENETRIAMINE
[NOHSC]
4.2 mg/m3
[TWA]1 ppm

Notices: Sk

References: H

Engineering Controls
Toxic and corrosive material. Single significant exposure may cause death. Maintain adequate ventilation at all times.

Personal Protection Equipment
GLOVES: Nitrile or Neoprene.
EYES: Chemical goggles or spectacles with side shields to protect eyes.

8. EXPOSURE CONTROLS / PERSONAL PROTECTION (Continued)
RESPIRATORY PROTECTION: Avoid breathing of mists. Select and use respirators in accordance with AS/NZS
1715/1716. When mists exceed the exposure standards then the use of an atmosphere-supplied, positive pressure
demand self-contained or airline breathing apparatus supplied air respirator complying with the requirements of
AS/NZS 1715 is recommended. Filter capacity and respirator type depends on exposure levels. If entering spaces
where the airborne concentration of a contaminant is unknown then the use of a Self-contained breathing apparatus
(SCBA) with positive pressure air supply complying with AS/NZS 1715 / 1716, or any other acceptable International
Standard is recommended.

Inhaled:
Toxic if inhaled. Mists or vapours will cause severe irritation to the nose, throat and respiratory system with effects
including: Dizziness, headache, coughing, loss of co-ordination, tightening of the chest, chest pains and possible
pulmonary oedema.

Chronic:
Prolonged or repeated skin contact may lead to dermatitis. Prolonged or repeated skin contact will lead to necrosis
(death) of the skin. Prolonged or repeated contact with this substance will cause sensitisation by skin contact.

m-PHENYLENEDIAMINE has been classified as a CATEGORY 3 MUTAGEN (WORKSAFE). A substance is
included in Category 3 if there is evidence from appropriate mutagenicity studies, of concern that human exposure can
result in the development of heritable genetic damage, but that this evidence is insufficient to place the substance in
Category 2.

12. ECOLOGICAL INFORMATION
This substance is Very Toxic to aquatic organisms This substance may cause long term adverse effects in the
environment. Avoid contaminating drains, sewers or waterways.

13. DISPOSAL CONSIDERATIONS
Refer to appropriate authority in your State. Dispose of material through a licensed waste contractor. Advise toxic and
corrosive nature. If large amounts of the product enter waterways, sewers or streams, immediately contact the
