SECTION III HEALTH HAZARD IDENTIFICATION

POTENTIAL HEALTH EFFECTS: This product can be used safely when applicable precautions are
observed.

This product contains Ethylene Glycol (less than 20%). Ethylene glycol's vapor pressure is such that at room
temperature toxic concentrations are unlikely to occur. (Industrial Exposure and Control Technologies for
OSHA Regulated Hazardous Substance). Exposure to mist and vapors of ethylene glycol is possible, however,
at elevated temperatures, and adverse effects have been reported from exposure to mists. (ACGIH.
Documentation of Threshold Limit Values).
Acute animal tests in rats, mice, rabbits, and guinea pigs have demonstrated ethylene glycol to have moderate
acute toxicity by inhalation or dermal exposure and low to moderate acute toxicity by ingestion. (DHHS,
Registry of Toxic effects of Chemical Substances. National Toxicology Information Program).
An epidemiologic study on renal cancer mortality did not find an increased risk for workers exposed to ethylene
glycol. (ATSDR. Toxicological Profile for Ethylene Glycol and Propylene Glycol).
A study by the National Toxicology Program did not find an increased incidence of tumors in mice exposed to
ethylene glycol in the diet. (NTP. Toxicology and Carcinogenesis Studies of Ethylene Glycol).
EPA has not classified ethylene glycol for carcinogenicity.

The American Conference of Governmental Industrial Hygienists (ACGIH) has not classified ethylene glycol as
a human carcinogen. The Threshold Limit Value has been set to minimize irritation of the respiratory passages.
(ACGIH. Documentation of Threshold Limit Values). The

Inhalation: Inhalation seems to result primarily in central nervous system depression and hematopoietic
dysfunction. (Industrial Exposure and Control Technologies for OSHA Regulated Hazardous Substances. The
only effects were noted in a study of individuals exposed to low levels of ethylene glycol by inhalation for
about a month were throat and upper respiratory tract irritation. (ATSDR. Toxicological Profile for Tthyleen
Glycol and Propylene Glycol).
Skin Contact: The compound is not likely to be hazardous by skin contact but washing the affected area with
soap and clean water is advisable. Skin sensitization due to exposures to ethylene glycol has been suggested by
OSHA. However, there is no "Skin" designation by ACGIH. (Skin notation refers to the potential significant
contribution to the overall exposure by the cutaneous route, including mucous membranes and the eyes, either
by contact with vapors, or, of probably greater significance, by direct skin contact with the substance. ACGIH).

Exposures to ethylene glycol may cause dryness and cracking of the skin. Harmful if ethylene glycol is
absorbed by the skin.
Eye Contact: Ocular irritation and lesions and pulmonary inflammation have been observed in rats, rabbits,
and guinea pigs subchronically exposed by inhalation. (USEPA. Health Effects Assessment for Ethylene Glycol,
EPA/600/8-68/038). May cause chemical conjunctivitis.
Ingestion: Ethylene glycol constitutes a hazard when ingested, (e.g. drinking antifreeze fluid). Transient
stimulation of Central Nervous System followed by depression, vomiting, drowsiness, coma, respiratory failure,
convulsitons, and renal damage, (Merck Index). Ingestion of ethylene glycol can result in intoxication,
resembling that due to alcohol, with ataxia, drowsiness, and slurred speech, possibly stupor, coma, convulsions,
and death.

CARCINOGENITY INFORMATION: NONE OF THE COMPONENTS PRESENT IN THIS MIXTURE AT CONCEN-
TRATIONS EQUAL TO OR GREATER THAN 0.1% ARE LISTED BY IARK, NTP, OSHA, OR ACGIH AS A
CARCINOGEN.

SECTION IV FIRST AID MEASURES

INHALATION: No specific intervention is indicated as the compound is not likely to be hazardous by
inhalation. Consult a physician if necessary.

Occupational exposure by inhalation to ethylene glycol is rare (USDOL). If inhaled, remove to fresh air.
If not breathing give artificial respiration. Monitor for pulmonary edema and treat as necessary

SKIN CONTACT: The compound is not likely to be hazardous by skin contact but washing the affected
area with soap and water is advisable.

Remove contaminated clothing. Wash skin with water, using soap, if available. If irritation persists,
seek medical attention.

EYE CONTACT: In case of contact, immediately flush eyes with plenty of water for at least 15 minutes.
If discomfort persists, call a physician immediately.
Immediately flush eyes with large amount of clean water for at least 15 minutes. Seek medical
attention.
INGESTION: No specific intervention is indicated as the compound is not likely to be hazardous by
small
amounts of ingestion. Small amounts swallowed incidental to normal handling operations are not likely
to cause injury; however, swallowing amounts larger than that may cause serious injury. Consult a
physician if necessary.
If swallowed and a gag reflex is present, give 4 ?8 ounces of water for dilution. Never give anything by
mouth to an unconscious patient or one that cannot swallow or is drooling. So not use emetics. Seek
medical attention.
