3. HAZARDS IDENTIFICATION

EMERGENCY OVERVIEW: Vapor can cause moderate to severe irritation of eyes, nose, throat
and respiratory tract. Can cause burning and itching with reddening of the skin, which is
accentuated by sunlight. Glass fiber/dust can be a mechanical irritant to eyes and skin.

POTENTIAL HEALTH HAZARDS

Contact with skin can result in irritation which when not washed off or when accentuated by sunlight, can result in
SKIN:
minor burns. Glass fibers may cause skin irritation.

Overexposure to product vapors can result in irritation. Eye contact with product will result in irritation, which in
EYES:
the absence of recommended first aid can result in minor burns to the eyes. Glass fibers may cause mechanical
irritation to eyes.

Overexposure to vapor may result in irritation to respiratory tract. Prolonged exposure in significant
INHALATION:
excess of permissible air concentrations can result in acute toxic effects, such as coughing, sneezing,
headache, dizziness, respiratory difficulty, and convulsions. Generally, there is no adverse health
effects from inhaled glass fiber dust; similar to nuisance dust.

Irritation of the gastrointestinal tract followed by nausea and vomiting, abdominal discomfort, rapid pulse,
INGESTION:
movements, etc.

DELAYED EFFECTS: Prolonged and repeated skin exposure over many months to years, in the absence of
recommended hygiene practices, may lead to changes in skin pigmentation and benign skin
growths. In some cases, skin cancer may occur after many years of exposure. These effects
appear to be exacerbated by simultaneous exposure to ultraviolet light (sunlight). Long term
exposure to coal tar pitch volatiles has been associated with the development of skin, kidney,
bladder, scrotum and lung cancer.

Ingredients found on one of the OSHA designated carcinogen lists are listed below.

INGREDIENT NAME NTP STATUS IARC STATUS OSHA LIST
Coal Tar Pitch Known carcinogen 1 ?Known Carcinogen Carcinogen
Glass Fiber Reasonably Anticipated

4. FIRST AID MEASURES

Remove with waterless hand cleaners or soap and water. Avoid solvents.
SKIN:

Flush eyes immediately with plenty of water or mineral spirits for at least 15 minutes. Call a physician.
EYES:

Remove to fresh air. If not breathing, give artificial respiration; preferably mouth-to-mouth. If breathing is
INHALATION:
difficult, give oxygen and call a physician.

If conscious, first induce vomiting, then take 2 tablespoons of activated charcoal 璘SP (drug grade) in water.
INGESTION:
Get immediate medical assistance.

No additional information.

EXTINGUISHING MEDIA: Water/fog, carbon dioxide, foam, dry chemicals, sand or steam.

UNUSUAL FIRE AND EXPLOSION HAZARDS: Water/fog can control fire. When heated to decomposition, it emits lower
molecular weight compounds.

SPECIAL FIRE FIGHTING PRECAUTIONS/INSTRUCTIONS: Water/fog can control unconfined fires. Scott Air-Packs
should be available.

6. ACCIDENTAL RELEASE MEASURES

IN CASE OF SPILL OR OTHER RELEASE: (Always wear recommended personal protective equipment.) Not applicable.

Spills and releases may have to be reported to Federal and/or local authorities. See Section 15 regarding reporting
requirements.

7. HANDLING AND STORAGE

NORMAL HANDLING: (Always wear recommended personal protective equipment.) Wear clothing closed at the neck, long
sleeves and non-porous gloves.

STORAGE RECOMMENDATIONS: Store in cool, dry, well ventilated area.

8. EXPOSURE CONTROLS/PERSONAL PROTECTION

ENGINEERING CONTROLS: Avoid breathing vapors. To rectify, ventilate work area and/or wear respirator and goggles, or
face shield.

PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT

SKIN PROTECTION: Full long-sleeved clothing closed at the neck and non-porous gloves. For exposed skin, use
approved creams, (e.g. Pro-Tek, Fend A-2, or Safeticote Skin Protector #83734)

EYE PROTECTION: Safety glasses, goggles or face shield.

RESPIRATORY PROTECTION: Use NIOSH-approved respirator with suitable organic vapor cartridge when fumes
and/or smoke are present.

ADDITIONAL RECOMMENDATIONS: Change clothes daily if contaminated.

11. TOXICOLOGICAL INFORMATION

IMMEDIATE (ACUTE) EFFECTS: See Section 3.

DELAYED (SUBCHRONIC AND CHRONIC) EFFECTS:
PITCH: Long term exposure to Coal Tar Pitch Volatiles (CTPV), above the recommended exposure limit, has been associated
with the development of skin, kidney, lung, bladder, and scrotum cancer.

FIBER GLASS WOOL: There are no studies to indicate that exposure to glass fiber dust causes cancer or respiratory damage in
man. Studies of rats exposed to glass fibers of various diameters and exposure routes resulted in an increase in cancers.
However, in the absence of adverse human health effects of inhaled fibrous glass dust, the relevance of these results to humans
has not yet been determined.

OTHER DATA:
PITCH: IARC Group 1 ?Sufficient evidence of carcinogenicity in humans. No scientific study supports an association between
coal tar pitch exposure and human reproductive hazards. Available data characterizes coal tar pitch as a mutagen.

FIBER GLASS WOOL: In October 2001, IARC re-affirmed its classification of Glass Fiber as a Group 3 substance `not
classifiable as to its carcinogenicity to humans'. In addition, IARC re-classified most types of Fiber Glass Wool from Group 2B
to Group 3. This decision was based on current carcinogenicity testing and epidemiological studies of man-made vitreous fibers,
such as glass wool and glass fiber, which show no increased risk of cancer or mesothelioma.

ACGIH lists Continuous filament glass fibers as A4- not classifiable as a human carcinogen.

ACGIH lists Glass Wool Fibers as A3- confirmed animal carcinogen with unknown relevance to humans.
