HEALTH HAZARD INFORMATION
HEALTH EFFECTS:
Non-carcinogenic, non teratogenic, non-mutagenic reproductive or post-natal hazard
in laboratory animals.
Swallowed:
Very toxic if swallowed. Oral LD (rats) , male 22mg/kg Female 13mg/kg.
Eyes:
Non ?irritant
Skin:
Low percutaneous toxicity (absorption). Non-irritant to rabbit skin; but caused
delayed contact hypersensitivity in guinea pigs. Dermal LD (rabbits); >2470mg/kg.
Skin irritation may be aggravated in persons with existing skin lesions.
Inhaled:
Harmful if inhaled. Breathing of vapour or sprays (mists) may aggravate acute or
chronic asthma or fibrotic pulmonary disease.
FIRST AID
Swallowed:
Do not attempt to give anything by mouth to an unconscious person. If the patient is
conscious and alert, give 2-3 glasses of water or milk to drink. Avoid alcohol. If
ingestion is suspected, contact physician or Poisons Information Centre immediately.
Seek medical assistance as soon as possible.
Eyes:
Hold eyelids open and flush with copious amounts of water for 15 minutes. Get
medical attention if irritation develops or persists after flushing.
Skin:
Remove contaminated clothing. Wash affected areas immediately with soap and
water. Get medical attention if irritation develops and persists. If signs of intoxication
(poisoning) occur get medical attention immediately.

FIRST AID (continued)
Inhaled:
First remove victim to fresh air or uncontaminated area. If not breathing, give
artificial respiration preferably mouth to mouth. Get medical attention as soon as
possible.
ADVICE TO DOCTOR:
Administer atropine sulfate in large therapeutic doses. Repeat as necessary to the
point to tolerance. 2-PAM is also antidotal and may be administered in conjunction
with atropine. The compound inhibits cholinesterase resulting in stimulation of the
central nervous system, the parasympathetic nervous system and the somatic motor
nerves. Do not give morphine. Watch for pulmonary edema which may develop in
serious cases of poisoning even after 12 hours. At first sign of pulmonary edema, the
patient should be placed in an oxygen tent and treated symptomatically.
PRECAUTIONS FOR USE
EXPOSURE LIMITS:
Repeated exposure may lead to contact dermatitis. azinphos-methyl is a toxic
chemical inhibiting the enzyme cholinesterase. Excessive exposure can produce
muscular tremors, uncontrolled mucous secretion, convulsion and coma.
Azinphos-methyl - OSHA-PEL 0.2 mg/m3
ACGIH-TLV 0.2 mg/m3
VENTILATION:
Local exhaust ventilation, when necessary.
PERSONAL PROTECTION:
Chemical-resistant gloves. Face shield goggles. Protective clothing.
FLAMMABILITY:
Use carbon dioxide or dry chemical for small fires. Use water spray or alcohol type
foam for large fires. Wear protective clothing and use self-contained breathing
apparatus. Dike area to prevent runoff and contamination of water sources. Thermal
decomposition products may be hazardous. Keep out of smoke, cool exposed
containers with water and spray.

SAFE HANDLING INFORMATION
STORAGE AND TRANSPORT:
Do not ingest. Avoid exposure by inhalation. Do not get in eyes. Avoid getting on
skin and clothing. Store in an area designed specifically for pesticides. Do not store
near food, feedstuffs, fertilizers, or seeds. Do not contaminate water, food, or feed by
storage or disposal. Store in a cool dry area, away from excessive heat and open
flame.
REACTIVITY DATA:
Stable under cool and dry conditions, protected from excessive heat. Avoid
temperatures above 75篊. Avoid strong oxidizing agents, alkalines. Decomposition
products may be hazardous. The decomposition gases contain HzS,CO, dimethyl
sulfide, PzOz, SOz, methyl mercaptan . Hazardous polymerisation will not occur.
SPILLS AND DISPOSAL:
Dike large spills using absorbent or impervious materials such as sand or clay.
Recover and contain as much free liquid as possible. Recover remaining spilled
material as appropriate. Collect and contain contaminated absorbent and dike material
for disposal. Absorb small spills on sand or vermiculite. Place contaminated material
in appropriate container for disposal. If spilled on the ground, the affected area should
be removed to a depth of one or two inches and placed in an appropriate container for
disposal. Do not flush material to public sever systems or any waterways. Wear
appropriate protective clothing and equipment during cleanup activities. Ensure
adequate decontamination of tools and equipment following cleanup. Dispose of in
accordance with local, state and federal regulations.
FIRE/EXPLOSION HAZARD:
OTHER INFORMATION:
Environmental Impact
