11 Toxicological information
Acute toxicity:
Primary irritant effect:
on the skin: Irritant to skin and mucous membranes.
on the eye: Irritating effect.
Sensitization: No sensitizing effects known.
Subacute to chronic toxicity:
Organic tin compounds are generally more toxic than inorganic tin.
Exposure may result in brain and central nervous system swelling, muscle
weakness, paralysis, respiratory failure, neurological disturbances,
liver damage, urinary tract injury and blood injury. Excessive exposure
may be fatal.
Subacute to chronic toxicity:
2,4-Pentanedione (acetylacetone), if present or released, is harmful if
swallowed, irritates the skin, and severely irritates the eyes. 2,4-
Pentanedione has caused mutagenic and reproductive effects in laboratory
animals and is also flammable. No information is known about the amount
of free 2,4-pentanedione present in or released by this compound.
Additional toxicological information:
Danger through skin absorption.
To the best of our knowledge the acute and chronic toxicity of this
substance is not fully known.
ACGIH A4: Not classifiable as a human carcinogen: Inadequate data on
which to classify the agent in terms of it's carcinogenicity in humans
and/or animals.
